The show opened with Edge and Teddy Long arguing about a ruling that Long had passed. Long then explained that he has forbidden Edge and Alberto Del Rio from touching each other tonight under penalty of banishment from Wrestlemania for both men.
Match 1: CM Punk v. Rey Mysterio
As Rey flipped onto Punk on the outside, Cody Rhodes came out and assaulted Rey, headbutting him with his protective mask, and revealing that he is wearing a knee brace, much like the one Rey wore when he injured Cody’s face a couple of months back, and rammed it into Rey’s face after positioning him into a corner.
Winner: Rey Mysterio (by Disqualification)
In the locker room, Christian told Edge that it might not be a good idea for Edge to be in the same building as Del Rio tonight, but Edge insisted on being in Christian’s corner for his match with Del Rio tonight.
Match 2: Edge v. Drew McIntyre
After Drew went after Edge’s hurt, taped up arm, Edge was able to make Drew tap by locking him in a leg submission where Edge did not need to use his arm. After the match, Edge speared Drew in the center of the ring.
Match 3: Kelly Kelly & Rosa Mendzez v. Lay Cool
Lay Cool made fun of Rosa and Kelly with goofy dancing moves, which they paid for by being jumped by Rosa and Kelly. When Rosa was distracted from her fight with Layla by Michelle, Layla was able to finish her off. After the match Lay Cool made fun of their Wrestlemania opponents.
Winners: Lay Cool
Match 4: Wade Barrett v. Kofi Kingston (Intercontinental Championship)
At the end of a back and forth contest, Kofi attempted to hit a dazed Barrett with the Trouble in Paradise after hitting Barrett with a jumping leg drop and fighting off Heath Slater, but as he went for the move, Barrett was able to catch him up on his shoulders, and hit him with the Wasteland finisher, pinning Kofi to win the Intercontinental title. After the match Justin Gabriel hit the 450 on Kingston to add insult to injury, as the Corre members celebrated Barrett’s first singles championship.
Winner: Wade Barrett (new Intercontinental Champion)
In the back, Alberto Del Rio demanded that he be allowed to fight Edge, but Teddy Long once against threatened Wrestlemania banishment if Del Rio did not obey his ruling.
The Undertaker came out to respond to Triple H from Monday Night. He said that Triple H’s confidence is starting to become uncertainty and will soon turn into despair. He then noted that Triple H’s mention that he would die trying to end Undertaker’s streak at Wrestlemania would be very prophetic. Undertaker said that on the night he returned to the WWE and Triple H interrupted him, Hunter’s fate was sealed. Undertaker then said that he has Triple H’s number, and that number is 19.
Match 5: Jack Swagger v. R-Truth
After an awkward looking dive out of the ring onto Swagger, R-Truth looked to favor his leg, but went to the top rope, where Swagger knocked him off from. Shortly after, Swagger locked in the ankle lock and R-Truth attempted to reach the ropes, but was forced to tap. Swagger continued to hold the ankle lock on as Michael Cole came in the ring and taunted R-Truth.
Winner: Jack Swagger
Match 6: Christian v. Alberto Del Rio
When Del Rio tried to lock in the arm bar submission, Christian was able to reach the ropes, prompting the ref to force a break. When Del Rio got away from the ref and came after Christian the two men ended taking one another out with a double clothesline. In the meantime, on the outside, Edge blindsided Brodus Clay with a spear and then grabbed a chair which he nailed Clay with. Distracted by this, Del Rio fell victim to Christian’s Kill-switch Engage, and got pinned. Edge slid into the ring with the chair in his grasp. As he wound up the chair to hit Del Rio, Christian ripped the chair out of his hands, and reminded Edge of the consequences for attacking Del Rio, pointing to the Wrestlemania sign. Christian then took it upon himself to nail the slowly rising Del Rio in the back with a chair knocking him out of the ring. Edge, who had a crazed look in his eyes, stared down Christian, and then slid to the outside, hovering over Del Rio as Christian followed and stood nearby to make sure that Edge didn’t touch Del Rio. Edge told Del Rio that beating Del Rio at Wrestlemania was Edge’s destiny.
