As the WWE fans celebrated America and The Rock’s birthday, John Cena didn’t have time for much celebrating.
Less than 24 hours after winning the WWE Championship in a triple threat steel cage match, Cena had to defend the title against The Miz, and it looked like his reign was short for a few moments.
As Cena fought off the Miz’s Skull crushing finale, he knocked the referee out of the ring. With no one to end the match as Cena got Miz to tap out to the STF, Alex Riley hit Cena with his briefcase and got the referee back in the ring and Miz hit the Finale, but Cena still kicked out. Cena responded with the Attitude Adjuster, but Miz kicked out. Then, as riley tried to enter the ring, Miz hit Cena with the title belt with the referee distracted. The ref then counted three for the pin, but upon seeing the belt and realizing what happened, reversed the decision and disqualified Miz. Cena finished off his night with the AA on both Miz and Riley, the latter of which is headed for SmackDown.
Rey Mysterio may have had old foe Alberto Del Rio watching at ringside, but he didn’t let it bother him as he and Kofi Kingston took on Jack Swagger and Drew McIntyre.
McInyre and Swagger both went to work on Kingston for much of the match until Kingston dodged McIntyre’s lunge and tagged Mysterio at the same time. Mysterio brought down McIntyre with his head-scissors and kicks, but Swagger broke up the cover. As Swagger tried to slam Mysterio, he used his momentum to kick McIntyre into the ropes, then hit the 619 as Kingston took out Swagger and finished him off with the Frogsplash. Immediately after getting the pin, he delivered a baseball slide to Del Rio as he tried to get in the ring.
John Morrison may have wanted to finally get R Truth in a match. But the match never officially got underway.
Truth assaulted Morrison out on the ramp, much like Morrison did last Monday night, finishing him off with a big facebuster on the floor near the ring. This time, it came after Truth cost Morrison his shot at winning the steel cage match the previous night.
Kelly Kelly may be back on Raw, but she’s not the only new Diva on Monday nights, as she and Maryse both found out.
Kelly was very aggressive against Maryse at the start, slamming her face to the mat several times, But it was just after that that the newly arrived Kharma came out and to the ring. Kharma delivered what looked like an upside-down facebuster to Maryse with Kelly crouched in the corner, then left after merely staring at Kelly and laughing.
Kane and the Big Show may still be Tag Team Champions, but they were both taken down by Mason Ryan alone.
Kane found himself repeatedly out-muscled against Ryan, with Ryan even shoving Kane completely out of the ring.. Once Kane finally got things going in his favor, sandwiching Ryan in the corner, CM Punk came in and broke up the match, followed by the rest of Nexus coming out and ganging up on Kane after Ryan fought off a choke slam attempt and delivered a side slam. Big Show came out and took out, Mike McGillicutty, David Otunga and Punk, but Ryan speared Show to the mat.
It looks like both the Superstars and Divas have monsters to deal with on Monday Night Raw.
