ABC needs some good press. ABC needs a successful daytime show. Will their answer come in the form of the likeable Katie Couric? At the moment, all one can say is wait and see. Yet, the soap fans state that even Katie Couric won’t be able to pull them out of the mess they have created for themselves.
Of course, you have to be living in a cave, not to know to know that ABC has made many, if not most of their fans unhappy with them. In fact, millions of fans are unhappy with them since they announced their plans to cancel two of their beloved soap operas “All My Children” and “One Life To Live.” These fans are so angry that they have been boycotting all of ABC programming except for the three daytime soaps. They also have been forming letting writing campaigns to ABC’s major shareholders, advertisers and to the ABC/Disney executives themselves, along with phone campaigns. They also wanted to make sure that the media and the press knew of their anger toward ABC by staging protest rallies against ABC along with sending them plenty of letters, twitter messages and making phone calls to them.
The fans have not given up their annoyance toward ABC. Now they have two goals in mind. They want ABC to change to minds in cancelling these shows or they want ABC to sell these shows to another network at a reasonable price, thus allowing the shows to continue.
While the fans were busy trying to achieve these two goals, ABC was trying to come up with ways to satisfy these fans entertainment needs, as well as the needs of their many other fans. Thus the idea of Katie Couric’s new entertainment show which will start airing in September of 2012. Since the announcement came today that this show is now a done deal and that 8 of ABC own stations are planning on airing this show at 3:00, the time original time set for “General Hospital,” this proves that ABC has no attention on reconsidering their plan on cancelling the shows. This now leaves fans with one goal: to get ABC to lower the price of these shows and to get another network to purchase them.
As for the future of “General Hospital” for now it appears to be safe. However, if its ratings goes down or if it proves to cost ABC much more than it does to produce those life style shows that are replacing the beloved soap operas “All My Children” and “One Life To Live,” you can be sure it is danger next year. And we all know life style shows doesn’t cost that much too produce.
For this reason, if you are a fan of “General Hospital” you better make sure you are watching and you better make sure your friends are watching it, too.
