With UFC 129 looking like one of the best UFC cards to come up in a while with fights like Aldo vs. Hominick and Couture vs. Machida, the main event should be an easy win for UFC champ George St. Pierre. Jake shields vows to submit GSP with his “American JJ”. Please. Shields acts like this is the first time GSP has fought a JJ specialist. GSP has already dominated ground warriors like Matt Serra and BJ Penn who were thought to upset GSP in that area. Also, GSP trains with Roger Gracie, one of the best JJ artists in the world. Not to mention he has already beaten the best of the best wrestlers at 170. Matt Hughes, Josh Koshcheck, Jon Fitch, and Frank Trigg just to name a few.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg of GSP, but lets look at Jake Shields. Yes coming off 15 wins is impressive, but who has he fought. So far his only win that is notable is a split decision win over Dan Henderson. I’m sure GSP could have 15 in EliteXC and Strikeforce if he wanted easy opponents. There’s a reaason why the UFC is the highest stage to fight on. Shields even said it himself. Next, if he is the JJ master everyone is saying he is, how can he dominate Dan Henderson’s back and Martin Kampman in mount and not finish. He didn’t even come close. Jake Shields has no knock out power either, I’m sorry but all of his fights I have watched pose no threat in that area. How good can you be training with the Diaz jagaloons in Strikeforce.
Let’s say Jake Shields gets a take down. His 27% success rate should be perfect for GSP’s 80% defense rate. GSP is the biggest and strongest we have seen him yet. It would be too tough for Shields keep him on the gorund, much less dominate for a submission. So Shields can’t knock him out with punches and can’t keep him on the ground so far.
How will GSP win? Well, GSP’s wrrestling base training with greats like Rashad Evans, Jon Jones, and Nate Marquart I would say he could exhaust Shields on the ground. He also has been redefining his jab and punch with Howard Grant and Freddie Roach for the past few months. Those guys are literally the best of the best when it comes to boxing. GSP’s speed, strength, and new knock out power could be the end of the this over-hyped fight. He even has said he wants to finish this and I believe he will showcase his ever improving stand up game.
This fight has been hyped before. Everyone thought Dan Hardy was the one to come in and beat him and hyped his knock out power. But they give these fights because there is no one left for him to fight right now.
Sorry Jake but you just have nothing going for ya. I don’t know what GSP will do after this title defense, but I do know this is an easy win.
