Does Anyone Care?
The article: “American Idol Finale? Who cares” published on CNN written by Lisa Respers France was in Tuesdays most read articles according to CNN. Lisa Respers France describes how the ratings have finally picked up again despite new similar reality shows like for example “The Voice” on NBC and gloomy predictions of the future of American Idol at the end of last years Season 9. It seems that the new judges have worked out and the talent is still there. But yet people aren’t so sure who to vote for at this year American Idol Finale. And I generally had the feeling yesterday night on Twitter tweeting about the show. Country Music is just not everyone’s genre. While in the past the Sex Appeal and Looks of contestant seemingly mattered to the more mature crowd on American Idol this year moms and grandmas just have to Seattle for kids. I don’t see many people openly hovering about looks and appeal of Scotty or Lauren nor do I expect women going crazy at the American Idol concerts. It seems that lowering the age limit has taken some of the excitement away for the contestants but musical talent is finally moved back to the forefront. However with younger age and less experience we didn’t see a lot of great gutsy song arrangements as we experienced in previous seasons with Idol Winners David Cook and Kris Allen. In the end it was a mellow American Idol Finale. It was non exiting but comfortable to watch. And I really don’t care either way as I am not a big fan of country music and I most likely will not hear either one again after tonight’s show unless Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina show up at several awards show next year.
The Drama before the Show
During rehearsals Lauren Alaina blew out her vocal cords. Haley Reinhart was told to sit tight in order to fill in for Lauren Alaina. Doctors fixed Lauren Alaina throat and she was able to perform on yesterday’s finale. For a brief time bloggers hoped that we will get an American Idol finale with a mixed genre but that didn’t happen. Scotty McCreery won the coin toss last week. Every year the coin toss decides the order of the finalists performing on the show. Scotty McCreery acted like a gentleman and gave Lauren Alaina the choice. She decided to sing second which put her in a slightly favorable position. Votefortheworst decided to back Scotty McCreery early on because they feel that the show wants Lauren Alaina to win.
Scotty McCreery American Idol Finale Songs
Scotty McCreery chose “Gone” by Montgomery Gentry. George Strait picked; “Check Yes Or No” for him. Jimmy Iovine picked his presumable new single “Love You This Big”. Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez gave him a slight edge over Lauen Alaina for the song : “Gone”. While the song: “Check Yes or No” is rather cute I think George Strait could have done better by picking a different song for Scotty McCreery. It was a mediocre performance. His last song: “I love You This Big” was a good fit for him. Jimmy Iovine actually picked a brand new song for Scotty McCreery unlike the song he picked for Lauren Alaina. I loved the video in the background and I think the song will do great on the country music market. I think Scotty McCreery will do great in the music industry and I admire his silent self confidence, authenticity and stage presence.
Lauren Alaina American Idol Finale Songs
Lauren Alaina selected: “Flat on the Floor” by Katrina Elam. Her idol American Idol Winner Carrie Underwood chose: “Maybe it was Memphis” by Pam Tillis. And Jimmy Iovine didn’t get Lauren Alaina a new song with: “Like My Mother Does”. The song was on Kristy Lee Cook’s album; “Why Wait” released by Arista Nashville. It was written by Nicolas Cage daughter in law according to TMZ. Kristy Lee Cook is known among American Idol fans as the top 7 Finalist in Season 7. I actually like the song: Flat on the Floor” a lot for Lauren Alaina because it shows some personality. I couldn’t tell whether Scotty Or Lauren Alaina won first round but the judges were sure she won second round singing: “Maybe it was Memphis” . Of course Steven Tyler thought she won the entire three rounds declaring proudly that Lauren Alaina is his American Idol. Even so the song: ” Like my Mother Does” is a cover I would say that was an excellent song choice by Jimmy Iovine for a finale song, for her and for American Idol. It made me cry and wishing I was that mom Lauren Alaina was singing it to. Based on her last song and last night I would say that Lauren Alaina won American Idol.
Guest Performances on American Idol Finale
Yesterday was Scotty McCreery’s and Lauren Alaina’s Night. The American Idol Finale is a night where we celebrate the contestants, and the judges and everything Idol. This is not a night for self promotion and auto tunes. In my opinion Taio Cruz doesn’t have any business performing on an American Idol Finale Performance Show especially since the judges comments were probably omitted in favor of his performance. I can see him singing as filler on Result Show night but not at an American Idol Finale.
It is tradition that the American Idol Elimination song will be played at the American Idol Finale with videos of the top 24 and stand out Auditions in the background. So I was absolutely thrilled that David Cook was back. I think he is an underrated American Idol winner and the entertainment industry would be good off embracing David Cook as the talent he really is. He is a show man and an amazing performer. He can be back on American Idol every night if you ask me. David Cook was my highlight of the night.
So Again Who Will Win American Idol?
Dialidol has Scotty McCreery winning this thing. This website measures busy signals of phone lines and they have never been wrong predicting the winner at the American Idol finale. However they have been wrong multiple times throughout the seasons. Not to mention with the Internet votes and the text votes it would be understandable if they were off this year. To my surprise Wikipedia has already Scotty McCreery listed as the American Idol Winner even so the show hasn’t aired yet. If I absolutely would have to put my money on it I would say it’s safer to say that Scotty McCreery won even so Lauren Alaina was the better finalist with the better last song.
