For the discerning traveler, a place like Kingston Tennessee may not be the obvious choice for somewhere to stay. But no matter your level of deliberate travel refinement, my current destination challenges your preconceptions. We are here in Kingston Tennessee at the Whitestone Country Inn Bed & Breakfast (1). Whitestone is a destination. Down a long stretch of road near the Paint Rock Wildlife Management Area, Watts Barr Lake and the Tennessee River; Whitestone Country Inn appears on first impressions to be its own animal. A massive 600 acre property, Whitestone includes a restaurant, wedding chapel, conference facilities, miles of hiking trails, as well as their Select Registry bed & breakfast property. All these luxury touches are quite nice, but how are the beds at Whitestone Country Inn? What is it that makes a night’s sleep here worth the time the trip to this off-the-beaten path destination takes? Let’s head on inside Whitestone Inn Bed & Breakfast and see if this is somewhere that you should Sleep Here Now (2).
The grounds at Whitestone Country Inn are a sprawling wonderland that are in part its own feat. More than just a bed & breakfast, the Whitestone grounds include an area with lots in The Pointe at Whitestone, where interested parties can build and become part of the community. There are also vacation homes in an adjacent development known as “The Sanctuary;” which includes an 8-acre central park with pond, pavilion, and prayer garden. There is a feeling of safety here at Whitestone as the only thing which surrounds you and your neighbors is wide open spaces and rolling fields brimming with trees.
Whitestone may seem a little out of the way and for this reason the property remains full-service. However the property is a short 40 minutes to Knoxville, 75 minutes to Chattanooga, and remains very close to the Smoky Mountains and so much of what eastern Tennessee has to offer. Moreover folks coming to Whitestone are not coming here to be in the center of the action. In fact, Whitestone even liken themselves to being their own New England village. Each room in the 23 room facility includes a whirlpool tub, fireplace, TV/DVD/wireless internet, fridge, coffee service, and complimentary breakfast. If you don’t like hiking, Whitestone offers a whole host of activities including tennis, bicycling, spa treatments, kayaks, canoes, and they even have a new marina with fishing and boating available in the warmer months
Because of its exclusive destination status, Whitestone Country Inn serves lunch and dinner. The night we stayed we were treated to their wonderful five course dinner. Choice of appetizer and salad were followed by an entrée, vegetable, and dessert. Chicken Florentine and rib eye steak were on the menu the night we dined there; both were very well received.
When we traveled through to the Whitestone Country Inn, the wife and I were lucky enough to stay in the Osprey room. All the rooms are themed after birds and this Osprey room soared high above my expectations for this removed inn. The Osprey room sat above one of the reception halls where wedding parties are held; the Osprey room was known around the grounds as the Honeymoon suite. Big open windows surround the room and a reclining chair and matching loveseat play warm up to the Osprey rooms wonderfully soft-sheeted, king sized bed. The dressings of the room are nice and worth noting but the real winner of this room is the bathroom. A whirlpool tub sat unused when we were there as there was a perspiration inducing sauna shower with glass windows which shut you in. This shower was one of the coolest uses of a bathroom space. Innkeeper Paul told us not to get “too raisin-ey” when we went back to the room. Indeed hours later my hands are still stretched and wrinkled.
After a wonderful dinner, restful night’s sleep and bounteous buffet breakfast it’s time to hit the road. Whitestone Country Inn is an inclusive getaway for the guest looking to shut off to the world outside. Some visitors may look at this destinations coordinates and think of what a hassle this location would be but quite literally you won’t need to turn your car on the whole time you’re here. Whitestone’s got all the essentials for everything you could possibly need. With its slyly central location nearby northern Georgia, western North & South Carolina, and a variety of other locations near eastern Tennessee, the trip may even be closer than you think. A vacation to Whitestone Country Inn appears more rewarded the longer you stay.
