Have you been to Brixx Pizza yet in Knoxville, Tennessee? It’s in West Hills across from the old K-mart shopping center. If you get to Morrell Road or West Town Mall turn around. You’ve just passed it. There’s a car wash right next door which will help you spot the restaurant.
There are two main reasons why I like the upscale casual Brixx Pizza in West Hills, Knoxville. One reason is that the food is great (more about that in a minute.) The other is their outdoor dining area on the front of the restaurant. This is great on cool afternoons and evenings. You can sit relax; talk and watch the traffic go by. It’s a fun setting for a date or to meet friends.
My college age daughter and I decided to meet at the Brixx Pizza in West Hills for lunch. We wanted a relaxed restaurant where we could catch up. If it hadn’t been raining we would have eaten on the patio. As it was we had booth not far from the bar. It was a little noisy but we could maintain conversation without too much difficulty.
Wood fired pizza is the name of the game at this West Hills restaurant but that’s not the only item on the menu. It was my daughter’s first visit to “the Brixx”. The server made suggestions and didn’t mind giving her a minute to look over the menu.
Sandwiches, salads and pasta dishes are also available. Drinks are sodas or iced tea and they also have several types of beer. The full menu for Brixx Pizza in West Hills is available online.
Our appetizer choice was the Wood Fired Pita Chips and Three Dips for $5.95. Although I couldn’t taste it the pita points were supposed to be dusted in cumin. The three different types of hummus were all tasty. They were each the size of an ice cream scoop. At Brixx Pizza in West Hills, Knoxville these are all served on the same plate instead of individual dishes.
The black bean hummus was flavorful but traditional is always my favorite. My daughter enjoyed the roasted red pepper. Each of these had a firm flavor that was appealing. It’s definitely an appetizer that we’ll try again.
All of the pizzas at Brixx Pizza are wood fired and 10 inches in size. Most, but not all, are made with mozzarella cheese. Crust choices are traditional or whole wheat. A gluten-free crust is available for a $2.00 upcharge.
Our choice was a customized Bronx Bomber at $10.95. It had a knock-your-socks-off kind of taste. At Brixx Pizza in West Hills it normally comes with Italian sausage, proscuitto, gorgonzola cheese and tomato sauce. Fresh oregano leaves are sprinkled on top of everything.
For our Bronx Bomber we substituted old fashioned mozzarella cheese instead of the gorgonzola and asked them to take it easy on the fresh oregano. This resulted in a flavor explosion that we enjoyed.
The spicy Italian sausage worked well with the prosciutto. Tomato sauces can be oversweet. Although this sauce did have light sweetness, it too blended well with spiciness of the meats.
One of the best parts of the Brixx Pizza is the crust. The pizza didn’t fold but it had a crunchy edge without being chewy. At 10 inches, it is a little large for one person but not quite enough for two people. Sharing the pizza in conjunction with the appetizer worked out perfectly for us.
Our total bill was $18.50 for the appetizer, pizza and two waters. Overall, we were pleased with our visit to the Brixx Pizza in West Hills.
