Having a candy theme for your wedding? That’s a lot of fun! Purchase candies which match or coordinate in color and use them as decorations, food at the wedding reception and party favors. You create a really stunning theme when you use candy as the decorations around the room in unusual ways. Rather than simply lining the candies up in clear jars to display you can do something much different and much more exciting. String the candies like garland and use them to decorate porches, stair rails, tables and more.
It might not be as easy to string, say, gumballs as it is to string popcorn but it’s done in the same manner. The strings of gumballs can be hung around the wedding reception room to lend to the color scheme as well as the decorative arrangements. Thread a strong needle with ordinary thread or fishing twine (even better). Push the needle through the first gumball and begin adding more and more. Use a thimble, piece of wood or other implement to help push the needle through the gumballs.
There are lots of different ways to make and use the gumball garland. String on gumballs of all the same color or alternate between two or more colors. Or, make garlands which have a single color, then hang two or more garlands together – of the same or different colors – to drape over railings or other areas.
Gumballs aren’t the only thing you can use to make garland. Make another type of garland by stringing together Gummi Bears or other Gummi candy. Thread them through the sides of their necks for best results. These garlands not only work well for weddings but also for baby showers, holidays and birthdays.
Use wrapped candies to make a totally different type of garland. Candies which have excess wrapper twisted at each end are perfect. Lay two candies on a table so that their end wrappers overlap each other. Tie a ribbon tightly around the two to adjoin them. Trim the ribbon short. Continue doing this until the garland is as long as you want it to be. With this technique you can add red accents by using cinnamon candy, yellow wedding accents by using butterscotch candy or other choices. The tied-together, wrapped candy garland is the easiest of all of them to make. You’ll find zillions of wrapped candies online – some which will be perfect for your wedding garlands.
It’s fun to create a candy theme for the reception room because everyone loves candy and it comes in a huge variety of colors and patterns. If you use wrapped candy they can later be untied from the garland and enjoyed by the newly-married couple or given as a gift to someone who worked hard to pull off the beautiful wedding.
