It’s the finishing touches that really complete a wedding reception. Whether you’re having a casual wedding or an elegant affair the tiny details can’t be overlooked. While making some or all of the decorations yourself throw in a simple craft project which creates a tiny bell card for each guest. The wedding bell place cards are just one small detail which really sets the mood at the reception.
The place cards can feature a cute sentiment while a different place card displays the person’s name. Or, the bell card can do both. To make the little bell, start with a piece of white card stock or thin cardboard. Fold it and crease the fold well.
Using a stencil, draw a large bell shape on the folded cardboard. The bell should be about three to four inches wide. Position the stencil so that the very top of the bell is against the fold. Draw the bell shape and cut it out. Using a much smaller stencil, draw another bell shape on the front of the card. This second bell should not be centered on the card. Instead, position it so that it’s very close to the fold and so that it leaves lots of room for the sentiment below it. Cut this shape out of both the front and the back piece of the folded card stock.
Use a clear label to print out the sentiment you want on the card. It can read “Ring for a Kiss”, “Love Sounds” or another line. Use gold or silver lettering or another choice. Print the caption from your home computer so that the label is smaller than the bell. Affix a label to the front of each folded card. If you want, write a guest’s name on the other side of the card, to use as a place card. This can be done using a fine-tip marker or by printing an additional, clear label.
Purchase small silver or gold bells from a craft store, party store or online shop. Cut a piece of white satin – or another color – and use it to add a bow to the bell card. Cut the ends of the ribbon at an angle to give them a finished look. Thread one end through the small bell shape of the card and through the bell. Bring the ends up above the card and tie a bow on top. Position the bell so that it hangs down inside the smaller bell shape.
Spread the two pieces of card stock apart at the bottom so that the place card can stand. Guests can ring their bells throughout the event or just take them home as keepsakes from the wedding. The unusual table toppers are adorable in white with gold or silver lettering but can actually be made with any color scheme to fit right in with your particular wedding. You’ll love them and so will your guests.
