What do you think kids would be doing if there were no video games? Maybe they would be playing a soccer game, or smiling at the A+ on the mid-term, or even sketching an imaginary creature from outer space. Instead, kids stay at home playing Super Mario or Pac-Man. This way, people damage their eyes, brain and personality. They also become violent. How you ask me, by picking up that controller.
A person’s eyes are extremely sensitive and fragile. An hour you spend on a screen, looking at animated figures, an hour less you see when you become an elder. Lots of children, teens, and even preteens have had their eye’s measurement of -3, -4, -5, and so on. Almost everyone at every school is wearing glasses, which is not such of a good news. The more you play video games, the more your eyes get damaged. The more your eyes get damaged, the thicker your glasses have to be. Some people would say that with the right amount of light and the right screen size, your eyes wouldn’t be affected, I say that even if you do that, your eyes will still get worse. This is because looking at a TV screen, your eyes will obviously become weaker over time, but looking at a TV screen when you’re stressed about winning and your head aching, your eyes will have a lot of strain put into them and you will eventually need glasses, too. Are you willing to give up your eyesight for a game? I used to be addicted to video games too (for only 2-3 weeks), and since that day, my eyesight went from perfect to -3!!
Nevertheless, video games don’t just destroy your eyes, but your brain as well. You start to skip your homework and wander off thinking about video games in the middle of class. This is called addiction, and it is very hard to overcome. Some people actually become mentally disordered, from video games, and require severe treatment. Too much video games can lead to suicide and more danger. It is a very regretful thing to do. Also, you come to have lower memory, and forget many things. When was that science test again? Where did I put my black socks? Is soccer practice today or tomorrow? These are the kind of things you forget when addicted to video games.
Violence is not good at all, it can cause some serious consequences. Some people say that they won’t ever get violent because video games are fake, just an animated picture on the screen. But I say that the animated picture on the screen can cause you many problems that you could not believe. For example, there is this person, he loves video games dearly, and he thinks that they are harmless because the make him feel better from bullies at school. So he imagines the enemy on the screen his enemy in school, and punches him, and hurts him until he wins. Instead of facing his problems at school, he is getting violent inside himself, and it is building up. This is a true story, by the way. Video games are also bad because within a few minutes of seeing violent scenes, children start to imitate them. They will jump, scream, and push all over the house. After a while, people start getting less sensitive to violence and start thinking that it’s not such a big deal. Later on, they would get “mean world syndrome”. This happens when you watch lots of violence and start thinking that the world is a bad place. People become very aggressive and can cause some serious damage to themselves and to the people around them.
Personality is a very important part in life. Without any personality, you become unknown, unheard of, and invisible. Video games can do that. You start wearing ragged clothes and thick glasses with dirty hair and yellow teeth. All you would care about is video games and nothing else. Your personality starts to fade away and your friends start backing away. Losing your personality means losing your friends. Personality is what gets you through life, don’t lose it.
Those are only four of the many reasons why you should strongly avoid playing video games. Keep yourself healthy, don’t slowly destroy your life. Instead, do something useful, make the world a better place. Do you want to tear your life apart, or construct it to the best it could be?
