We like to pretend that most television shows today do not shock us. We have seen it all and that makes us numb to many outrageous and wild shows, it is true. Still, there are few that snuck by and alerted my radar. To the tune of funny, shocking, wild and, well, made me say OMG and here they are.
Runnin’ Wild, a show by Ted Nugent, is probably one of the most outrageous television shows that I have ever seen. It is entertaining, stupid, shocking, funny and just unbelievable. This show is on CMT, the country music channel and it is wild. I am fan of Ted Nugent’s music, so I was interested when I came across this show, late one night. I just had to watch. Mr. Theodore Anthony Nugent, also known as Ted, look out. He can bedazzle a rock music audience like no other. I had to wonder what in the heck he was doing on the CMT channel. Ted is an activist, hunter, musician and gun rights promoter, along with believing in animal conservation. What a combo. Turns out, he has had many outdoor and reality type of shows over the years. Imagine my surprise. I am a bit behind, it seems.
This show premiered in 2009. I think CMT and the outdoors type of channels showed it. The late night reruns live on. Ted picks three contestants for each show. They will be tested not only on their outdoors survival skills, but they will actually be hunted down by Ted. I am not kidding. They may catch fish using their clothes, camouflage themselves and such. Then, they are turned loose on Ted’s Sprit Wild ranch to hide from Ted. All day and all night. Where this show becomes a true OMG television show is when the hunted realize that Ted has set traps for them, in the woods. Ted knows his land well and these folks have little chance of making it out without falling into a pit, tripping a trip wire, setting off alarms and all that. I feel sorry for them. Ted toys with them as any hunter would do, then goes in for the kill. Did I mention he has dogs with him? I watched two shows and that was enough for me. From punk rock girls to retired army men, Ted hunts them and gets them. The winner gets to be blood brothers or sisters with Ted. OMG. I am done. This wacked out show is for the extremely bored and die hard Ted fans. Ted’s son Rocco is also in these shows and I admit, it was fun to see a different side of Ted. A scary one.
To Ted’s credit, he has released over thirty-four albums, sold over thirty million and is accomplished in hunting, acting, music and conservation. He pisses a lot of people off, animal rights groups, gun control folks and he is what he is. A mad man. Just kidding. He is a special breed and he does have a faithful following, you can be sure. This show is indeed a jaw dropper. OMG!
Quints By Surprise is a clever reality television show on TLC, the learning channel, Monday nights at ten. In it’s fourth season, this show documents the interesting lives of the Jones. You won’t be keeping up with these Jones. I will tell you why. Ethan and Casey Jones have six children. A daughter and quintuplets. Oh, my. This couple had a hard time with fertility and when it caught up to them, it did with a vengeance. Meet Elliot, the first daughter of this charming couple, followed by Brooklyn, Britton, Jack, Lila and Ryan. Four girls and one boy, known as the Jones quints. Poor Jack. To be the only boy in that family, I have to say it must be hard. I tuned in for my first episode of this show by mistake. I just could not stop watching. The juggling act of Casey and Ethan Jones is quite an OMG site to behold.
This brave couple manages to handle quints plus one with amazing style, grace and humor. I was blown away. Their strength, courage and sense of fun leaves me laughing and feeling overwhelmed for them. They don’t mind it, though. Really. Not much. Anyway, if you tune into this show, you will see a family unlike any other. A wonderful one. Kind of like swimming through a hurricane in the ocean and smiling. Charming and endearing. This couple is fearless and they make me cheer. They also make me say OMG often, I must admit. Trying to fit a five seat stroller into an elevator ain’t easy. Changing hundreds of diapers a week can be daunting. Five hungry babies crying in unison is unlike any other sound, you can be sure. I need sedation after this show and the Jones are still smiling. That is love. What a show. Bravo. OMG. That Lila is a pistol. Whew. I get tired just watching her.
Millionaire Matchmaker is a television show on the Bravo channel. It is one of the highest ranked shows in Bravo’s history and that is impressive. Patti Stanger founded the millionaire’s club in 2000, fixing up eligible wealthy clients with potential spouses. This popular show is all about that and is in it’s fourth season. Patti is a third generation matchmaker. Wow! She knows what she is doing and does it well. This is where this show becomes an OMG one. Patti is outspoken, direct and pulls no punches. She tells these wealthy people just what is wrong with them, why they have not been lucky in love and how to do better. Few people have the balls to tell an extremely wealthy man that he needs to cut his hair or shave his face. It goes on from there and gets funnier. And wilder.
Patti has a cast on this show that includes Chelsea Autumn, Alison Standish, Destin Pfaff and Rachel Federoff, among others. Both the clients and the potential dates are intriguing, funny, weird and a mix of all things bizarre and cool. Patti rounds them up, whips them into shape and introduces, giving advice and mentoring. Some listen, some don’t. Patti has expelled more than a few from her club and with good reasons. This show is highly entertaining and gives me an OMG moment or two at least each episode.
Television shows come and go and these will too, but they do give me the OMG factor that caught my attention and made me want to watch. At least, for a little while. If nothing else, I will always remember them. That is a good thing.
