I recently stayed at Homewood Suites ‘” Markham for over 2 months due to my relocation. Initially, it was just for a month, but this was extended to 7 ½ weeks in the end.
This is the 2nd time I have stayed at Homewood Suites ‘” Markham, I stayed there in July 2010 for 3 weeks as well.
As a regular traveller with my family, I am always very impressed by the level of service, space and amenities at North American hotels. My comments have been widely shared by many tourists from Australia and Europe; as the service level in Canada and the United States are really on their own league.
Homewood Suites ‘” Markham is no exception, as part of the Hilton chain, the Homewood Suites is designed for travellers requiring extended stays, some of the guests in our hotel have stayed for more than 3 months already.
Location: Markham is the technology hub of Great Toronto Area (GTA), with high concentration of technology companies based here, such as AMD, Apple, IBM. There are also a large number of financial services companies which have their IT operations here such as American Experess, TD Waterhouse or Scotiabank.
Markham is a very busy town, with a lot of shops and restaurants. The Homewood-Suites Markham is located next to Costco centre, this is one of their biggest centres in Canada. It is also next to the First Markham Centre, where there are over 150 shops, it is a prominent Asian Shopping Mall in Markham with over 50 restaurants to choose from.
Costco is within walking distance, it is around 300m from the hotel, while the First Markham is around 1km. I could walk there easily, but most people still prefer to drive especially if with a family or during the winter times.
For those unfamiliar with Homewood Suites, if offers Managers’ Reception from Monday to Thursday, and this includes hot-food, salad and drinks. It makes a lot of difference for us as we have 4 members in the family, and this can result in $20 to $25 saving each day just on dinners. The choice is quite diversified, you can see from their menu what you can expect each day. On 2 days, they were serving chilly food, so we went out and grab something instead.
The swimming pool is very nice and heated too, although it is still quite cold during the winter time.
Parking is free and there are always lots of parking spaces available, which is a bonus for us. We have stayed in many hotels before, and as you know, parking fees can range from $20 to $30 each day, I am glad we did not have to pay anything for the parking.
Another thing that is different for Homewood Suites ‘” they do not have their own restaurants. This is different from other Hilton hotel chains ‘” where you can find caf© or proper restaurants inside the hotel.
Homewood Suites Markham offers 3 types of rooms: Studio, 1 bedroom suite and 2 bedroom suites. We usually stayed at 1 bedroom suite, which has 2 separate rooms ‘” a large living area with a sofabed ‘” and the separate bedroom where the bathroom is as well.
2 bedroom suites are very comfortable, and we felt it was too big for us ‘” and more expensive of course, it could sleep up to 6 adults easily.
