Countless articles, books, seminars, psychic consultations, astrological predictions address the same question, “how do I find my true love, my soul mate?” Many people have a nonrealistic quest for that perfect man, woman who will appear in a thousand million possible scenarios, and from that moment forward, love will be perfect as well as their life to come. When true love does not appear, how do men and women cope with not attaining the happily ever after?
Most people seek a satisfying relationship, but satisfaction, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. The reasons people are attracted to each other are as numerous as stars in the sky. A truly happy, healthy vibrant relationship that reflects the mystique of true love cannot be built on the illusionary relationships filled with settling for any man or woman, a fight or flight attitude, .false expectations, and selfishness.
Love as preached by the world is similar to a greeting card. Flowery expectations, romance and sailing off into a sunset. Women are raised on the concept of Prince Charming and the false expectations that relationships are perfect without work, commitment and a complimentary yet equal partnership. Relationship expectations are skewed toward the impossible and disillusionment when needs are left unfulfilled.
Too many relationships become stale or die as women and men become disillusioned with themselves, their lives and each other. Divorce, separation becomes the easy solution because many have in their minds and hearts moved to the next relationship, the next impossible dream. Sometimes the next relationship is permanent and brings satisfaction to both, and sometimes the cycle is repeated, because nothing changed within the individuals.
People who do encounter “true love” are individuals that have embarked on a journey of self-discovery, and have a true understanding of self and what or who will compliment that true self. They seek to build a permanent foundation that encompasses hearts, souls, lives, minds and a vision of a shared future built on love, trust, mutual respect and a lifelong commitment. A compatibility that extends into every aspect of self becomes the criteria in the quest for “true love.”
If you seek “true love,” this love starts within and isn’t an instantaneous happening. Finding self love requires introspection, an acceptance of self and a release of frustrations, anger, guilt and other damaging past baggage. You need to stand in front of that invisible mirror and look at every aspect of self and accept your life as a journey. Self-loathing, condemnation, judgment and all other negative aspects of being must be examined, forgiven and released.
When the scales of life fall away and the true self emerges, then the love that radiates within begins to radiate outward. We attract what we emit. When we emit that beautiful self-love, confidence and acceptance of self, how can we not attract the same? When we are complete loving individuals we will encounter a “true love,” because we will see ourselves reflected in the personage of the other individual.
We will experience the wonder of a complete love built on what is vital to ourselves. We will experience fulfillment and a complete happiness that permeates all aspects of self and life. We will relish the sensation of comfort, total trust and love. Oh yes, a “true love,” is possible, but true love starts within and doesn’t happen instantly, but IS possible.
