I was raised from a very young age to garden. I can remember from back when I was about 2 and my mom would take me out to our yard and have me help to plant flowers in our front yard garden area. She started at that very young age also to help teach me how to make plum preserves. Later as I got older my dad took over and helped show me how to take a very small area and create the most amazing scenery ever. With hard work and lots of love and laughter we would create a garden area behind our house and in a very short few months it was beautiful, lush and oh so yummy! They even started my own personal cherry tomato garden area, just to keep me out of the fresh tomatoes out of our garden when they would ripen to delicious perfection. Needless to say, from a very young age, I was hooked on gardening and all of the benefits one could receive from creating such an art of beauty from just dirt, seeds, watering and lots of love.
So here, I am going to share with you, my fellow gardening fans, the top 5 gardening blogs that I believe are a must see. They vary from regular gardening to hydroponic and small space gardening and help to open up your world and eyes just a little bit more and expand your love for gardening just that much more! Here we go!
#1 on my list is: http://voices.gardenweb.com/garden_voices/
Gardenweb is one of those types of websites that is a one stop fits all type of website and their blog called garden voices definitely hits the high marks when it comes to giving out information on all types of gardening. You can come here to read, ask questions, post information or pictures of your own garden or babies you are nurturing and so much more. It is a whole garden community dedicated to gardening, their gardens and the pursuit of gardening happiness. You do not have to be an expert, in fact there are literally thousands who are not on the site but each person who contributes has a huge impact on so many people, I’m sure they don’t even realize how many people they are truly helping who are wondering about the same very thing. From garden pests, to what kind of plant is this or can I grow this plant here or where can I find this, the number of questions and answers are innumerable and the amount of information gained from this site is invaluable.
#2 on my list is: http://awaytogarden.com/
A way to Garden is such a relaxing and informative blog to drop by and read for literally hours about anything you want to find out about. Written by a garden enthusiast Margaret Roach, one can literally get lost in her enthusiasm for plants, how to grow them and enjoy in her search for more information on how to plant, where to plant, new reads, new plants, planting calculators and so much more. Her blog is a must for any new or experienced gardener to stop by and gander for a few minutes or get lost in the pages listed from her site for hours on end. I love the fact that the information she carries can be followed through twitter, facebook and more. She has gardening forums and a humor section that is a must not miss if you love gardening as much as I do.
#3 on my list: http://allyeargarden.com/
This blog that is penned by an avid gardening enthusiast as well who has a variety of articles, pictures, links and information splashed throughout their blog. I can get lost in this blog and can totally relate to many of the different articles they post on this blog about different plants and places they go to. Reading through their discoveries about plants and their exploration of the world of gardening, both outside and inside, books on the subjects, including food /meals created by those garden plants grown is very expansive. From herbs, to edibles to rain water harvesting, seed harvesting and exploration and their avid love of the beauty of gardening and all it encompasses, any gardening enthusiast must visit this place at least once to bookmark it to be able to return again and again, just to see what is new with the site and the newest information placed just for our reading and viewing pleasure.
#4 on my list: http://hydroveggiesblog.wordpress.com/
Here we go with one of my favorite types of gardening blogs: hydroponics and indoor gardening. I love, love, love reading about the newest thoughts on how others are growing inside their homes, shacks and greenhouses. What I love so much about this blog is the variety of different types of information you can receive from this site and the types of hands on information you can get, a basically ‘how to’ site, which is especially great for beginners but even the experts like to ‘see’ what others are doing that works for them. I believe I am in the middle grounds somewhere when it comes to gardening, nowhere near to being an expert, so reading what works for others, what kind of new recipes they have come up with their freshly hydroponic or indoor veggies and fruits just make me drool. One of their biggest enticements for me I believe is their ‘gardening for kids’ section that just drew me in from the start. I was a stay at home mom for nearly 20 years and anything I could do with my kids at home to help educate my kids, while they could have fun too made me a very happy mommy as well as helped to expand my children’s education horizon while having fun. It is always a win win situation and a must see blog!
#5 on my list: http://www.jasons-indoor-guide-to-organic-and-hydroponics-gardening.com/hydroponics-gardening-blog.html
Last but not least for your viewing pleasure is yet again one of my favorite sites to visit when I have: Jason’s Indoor Guide to Organic and Hydroponic Gardening. I love anything that as to do with indoor gardening and hydroponics and this blog and the whole website attached to it has just about anything and everything you need to know about how to do indoor gardening from an experts standpoint explained in layman’s terms so that anyone can not only understand it, but DO it! He can help teach you how to put together your very own hydroponic system and if you have questions about any of it, there is a section you can go to, to ask what it is, why and how for. If you have been thinking about, dabbling with or an experienced indoor gardener or hydroponic grower, you won’t want to miss this guy’s website and all the information he has listed on here.
So there you go, the top 5 must see gardening blogs for your viewing pleasure. Some may wonder why I stopped at five and did not do a top 10 or more. Simply put, none of us have a lot of time to read, write or do much of anything else when it comes to our times of leisure, so why not make the most of the time we do have. Sure you can book mark all of the pages but truly, how many people ever go back to all of the pages they have bookmarked? I know I don’t, even if it truly interested me and in our multi-tasking ever so busy lives of today, it is much easier to go back to only a few pages than a larger list, no matter how much we would like to take the time to do so. So there you go, 5 it is. A short enough list for you to travel back to throughout the week or weekend and return to, to check up on updated information over the next few weeks or even years, but long enough to give you enough pages/blogs/website to give you a variety of places to enjoy during the few sacred minutes you may have for yourself for your viewing pleasure.
