The best summer vacation ever for me was not a vacation you would think of when you hear the word vacation.
One Summer I went on a mission trip to Nova Scotia with the Baptist Church that I was a member of at the time. It was a small group with most of the group being children.
The only bad part was the preacher’s daughter and the fact that the group was made up mostly children. The preacher’s daughter was a brat the entire trip. I have no idea why she was allowed to go except for the fact that she was the preacher’s daughter. She’s not the only person that questioned the merits of them being a part of the trip.
Besides having some people that should no have been allowed to go it was a great trip. Nova Scotia is a beautiful place with friendly people. The southern part of the United States is suppose to be full of friendly people but Nova Scotia actually has friendly people.
The food was also something to remember. I enjoyed having gravy on my fries at KFC. I also enjoyed having fish and chips. I am not referring to the chips that you can buy by the bag at the grocery store.
It was great as a vacation in that I saw places that I have never seen before. I met people that I would not have met if not for the trip.
The trip was not a vacation just to eat different food and see amazing places but a trip to interact with people. A trip to share Christ with people. It was a trip I was meant to be a part of and a trip that I will never forget.
I believe this is my first time sharing about the trip since we were not given an opportunity to share when we returned home from Nova Scotia.
I was able to meet one boy at an event we were a part of who impacted my life. My only regret is that I know that he needs someone to be there for him more than one day.
I did enjoy the trip but it also made me realize that it’s better to live in the community of the people that you are trying to share Christ with than to go there on a vacation. As much as this was not a vacation, it was a vacation.
I do not believe that we shared Christ with enough people nor do I believe that we made enough of an impact in people’s lives for Christ. You should not go to a place as an outsider thinking that spending such a short time among the people will give you the right to say that you were on anything more than a vacation.
I had a great time in Nova Scotia. I highly recommend Nova Scotia as a destination for your next vacation. If you want to go to share Christ then I would suggest that you move there.
