Ormond Beach was originally settled in the 1870’s by employees of the Corbin Lock Company, of New Britain, Connecticut. The Company was seeking a winter retreat for its employees and chose this region. During the previous Spanish occupation of Florida, the site had been a plantation owned by James Ormond, a Scottish sea captain. The community is named after Captain Ormond.
