Britney Spears is kicking off her Femme Fatale Tour in just days and we already can’t wait to see how the 29-year-old pop princess looks, moves, and (if there’s any live singing) sounds! Regardless, like all of Britney’s past tours, we’re sure it’ll be a spectacle that will have everyone talking.
Proving just how bad we wanna go-o-o, let’s take a look back at some of our favorite past Britney performances that could only be seen at an arena near you. Well, until YouTube.
1. “…Baby One More Time (Remix)” (Dream Within a Dream Tour)
Britney took her after-concert shower to the stage, with her debut single remixed into a nearly unrecognizable, slinky electropop number. We haven’t looked at the song, or Britney, the same again since.
2. “Piece of Me” (The Circus starring Britney Spears)
Britney is a caged tigress in this number, finding the ins and outs of her confines as she tries to escape from henchman clad in S&M gear. Only Britney can make a slightly-tragic metaphor for living in the spotlight so sexy.
3. “Toxic” (The Onyx Hotel Tour)
Her performance of one of her most successful singles oozes with energy and confidence, and the dancing in the middle is exactly the kind of Britney breakdown we love to see (and not, as in later years, a mental one).
4. “Touch of My Hand” (The Circus starring Britney Spears)
Britney’s ode to self-love featured her writhing in the air aboard two dancers in flight. Think Cirque du Soleil with nipple tassles. Cover your eyes, little ones!
5. “Everytime” (The Onyx Hotel Tour)
Give her just a piano and a microphone and a performance of this surprisingly affecting ballad, even with her weak, shaky voice, is more vulnerable and emotive than anything her peers like Christina or even Gaga could manage.
6. “What U See (Is What U Get)” (Oops!…I Did It Again Tour)
At only 18-years-old on one of her first tours, the performance of this “Oops!” album cut marked Britney’s first time on the pole for this number, but certainly not her last. (See: “Gimme More” video, recent “S&M” performance with Rihanna)
7. “Material Girl/Black Cat” ( — Baby One More Time Tour)
With Britney rumored to be covering Madonna’s “Burning Up” on her new tour, it’s not the first time she paid due to two queens of pop: Madonna and Janet Jackson. Taking on two of their biggest hits on her very first tour, Britney showed she wasn’t trying to be the next Tiffany, but was aiming for much more legendary status.
