The second link for week 1 was web hosting. Here was a video on how to choose your domain name. The example used was on cooking, and then they suggested you go to domainsbot.com, and see if yours is available.
They don’t tell you what you will be selling, or what links you will be using, so how on earth can you come up with a domain name that will tell your customers, about what you will be doing on the page.
I came up with several names, and they had been taken. I finally did come up with a name, but it wasn’t to do with any products.
Then it was time to choose a company to host my web page. They suggest hostgator.com. I continued to watch the video and they have a special with them, and offer the first month of hosting for 1 penny, if you took the $9.95 a month deal. You would also get $100 google add word account.
I tried putting my domain name it, and it kept telling me it was taken. I tried hundreds of different ways, and wasn’t lucky. In the end I put down one I didn’t want so I could go further.
The hostgator.com bill came up as 1 penny for the first month, and $15 for the domain name to be registered.
By now I had spent several hours, and hadn’t ‘begun working immediately’. I knew that I wouldn’t receive my first payment in just hours from now’. This was starting to suck.
So Friday came, and 2.00 p.m. No phone call. At 2.15 p.m. I finally received the phone call from the senior director.
He was really polite and a smooth talker. He introduced himself to Len and myself. He talked a little about our situation, and told me that there are many people out there, making a great deal of money. They want people to make money, and he felt that I could go far, especially with my writing background.
He said to me that top people have ‘coaches’ and that is why they do so well. Rather than spend the time going through all these lessons to possibly make money, why not invest $5,000 to $10,000, and have my own coaching staff work with me. This way I would be making multiple streams of income.
I said that he had to be joking, and he told me that if I wanted a successful business, wasn’t it worth putting more than the cost of the kit into it. I didn’t answer him again, but let him continue to talk.
He told me that there would be conference calls weekly. That I would start my selling on eBay. I would have the research tools, be able to do auctions, and place orders. He figured I could be doing 150-200 sales a month, and making $20 to $35 on each one.
I told him that I wasn’t interested in selling on eBay, and thought that I would be connected to companies, that needed home workers.
I also mentioned about the way the company advertised this kit. I told him that you couldn’t receive your first payment in just hours from now, and that no prior experience or skills are required. He told me that the successful ones that they show were prepared to pay for a coach.
So by buying the kit, there is no way that even someone like me, who knows a little about the Internet, can make this kind of money.
He abruptly told me that I could use the kit on my own, and ended the conversation.
My first thoughts of, it is too good to be true, was certainly right.
To be continued…..
