UPDATE: On June 23rd Samara’s father Randolph announced on the Finding Samara facebook page that ” Samara has been located in St. Mary’s Parrish Louisiana by the local police. She is no longer concidered missing. Thank you everyone for your prayers and concern and help. “
Samara Deva Amchin is like a lot of Floridians .. a transplant from New York. But unlike the rest of us, she is missing.
She had gone from Florida to Louisiana with her boyfriend in September of 2010. Their plan was that he was going to a work there for a few weeks before they went to Dubai where he had a contract job with an oil company. There were issues with their housing there among other things and she was unable to get her passport in time to go with him. After a traumatic breakup, her boyfriend left for Dubai and Samara left Berwick, LA, returning to Florida alone in March of 2011. She then stayed with a friend for a week in Tamarac, FL. On March 14th all of her belongings were gone, and so was she. No one has seen or heard from her since.
To those that know Samara (or Sam as she sometimes went by) leaving without a word to anyone is so out of character it leaves us wondering why did she leave, where did she go, and was she with anyone. All we know is she left in her white Oldsmobile Intrigue to points unknown and hasn’t contacted anyone these past three months. A close friend who had been helping her pay her cell phone bill became alarmed when he hadn’t heard from her and found that her cell phone account had abruptly been cancelled. There is no evidence of her having used her credit or ATM cards.
She has a page on The National Missing and Unidentified Persons Systems website. Her NamUs Missing Person # is 10814. But she’s more than a number. She is somebody’s daughter, somebody’s sister, somebody’s friend.
Her sister Dara Amchin Underberg has started a Facebook Page dedicated to finding her and keeping those of us looking for her informed. In the week since it was started, it has reached 208 members. “It’s really incredible to see how many lives Samara has touched and even more to see the outpouring of support from friends”.
The search isn’t just in Tamarac, FL (Broward County) where she went missing. Her poster and information have been spread by the power of social media to points all around Florida. It has also been passed from friend to friend in and around where she grew up in Goshen and Monroe (New York). Her poster hangs in store windows and as suggested by one of her closest friends from high school, Amy Paduch Wood, is hung in car windows so that they are seen in places posters can’t be hung.
The soon to be 36 year old Samara has long brown hair and brown eyes. She is approximately 5 feet tall and weights around 110 pounds. Samara’s left ankle and right leg are scarred from a car accident and her left ankle was surgically rebuilt with pins. She has an earring in each ear and her tongue is pierced. What her missing persons report can’t tell you is how warm her smile is and that her laughter is infectious. It can’t tell you how much fun she is to be around or how much she is missed.
If you see Samara, please contact your local law enforcement and let them know that you have seen her.
