Rather than bore audiences by having Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart pretend to make out again after their Best Kiss win, the MTV Movie Awards delighted Twihard fans by having Rob kiss costar Taylor Lautner instead. But while the guys made a cute couple and their same-sex smooch got plenty of attention, they aren’t the first men to make out at an awards show. Here’s a look at a few other guys who have smooched other guys at award ceremonies:
Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell
Quite a few male same-sex couples have won Best Kiss trophies at the MTV Movie Awards; however 2007 winners Cohen and Ferrell have been the only men to replicate their kiss onstage. In fact, the guys took their make-out session to the extreme after winning for their passionate smooch in “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” by rolling all over the stage while swapping spit.
Russell Brand and Jonah Hill
MTV also managed to capture two guys kissing on camera at last year’s award show with a little help from a Kiss Cam. The camera focused on different kissing couples in the crowd, where it found “Get Him to the Greek” costars Brand and Hill all over each other. Amazingly, the very funny guys’ intimate moment was an unplanned one.
Adam Lambert and his Keyboardist
Lambert caused quite a bit of controversy when he kissed his male keyboardist at the American Music Awards in 2009, with ABC reporting that over 1,500 people called to complain about the kiss. The fact that the artist also simulated oral sex onstage might have had something to do with the outpour of anger over the incident, but it could also be seen as rather telling that an openly gay celebrity caused such a controversy with his kiss while other male celebrities’ stage smooches are simply seen as being silly.
Daniel Radcliffe and James Corden
The star of the Harry Potter movies got a quite shocking surprise when he went to accept an award for his play Equus at the 2008 Whatsonstage theatre awards in London — host Corden grabbed him by the face and gave the actor a long, lingering kiss (at least he seemed really happy for stunned Radcliffe, who did seem to mind going along with the stunt once he caught on to what was going on).
Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin
Earlier this year audiences had to miss the kiss between these esteemed actors when the camera cut away from their stage smooch at the Oscars. Responding to rumors that their quick kiss had been censored, Oscar producer Bruce Cohen explained that the directors had decided beforehand to cut away to Bardem’s pregnant wife Penelope Cruz in the crowd right after Bardem and Brolin were introduced, so the unscripted kiss was inadvertently missed by viewers at home.
