A trip to the drug store is always an experience, especially when the goal is to find a great shampoo and conditioner. Today drug stores and beauty stores can offer a wide variety of shampoos and conditioners for different hair types and hair issues. There are products to cover all the basics from dry, oily, and frizzy hair to damaged and color-treated hair. Another type of shampoo that can be seen on shelves for a while is the organic or the natural kind. After a visit to the local drug store I decided to pick up “Yes to Cucumbers” shampoo and conditioner combination for color treated hair.
“Yes to Cucumbers” is a part of the “Yes to” brand that specializes in hair, skin, and beauty products that are mainly made from natural ingredients such as fruits, vegetables, and minerals. “Yes to Cucumbers” shampoo and conditioner are formulated specifically for hair that has been color treated and needs the extra moisture. The “Yes to Cucumbers” shampoo is 99.8% natural and paraben-free. The conditioner is 99.6% natural and doesn’t contain any harmful ingredients such as petroleum. Also, both products are not tested on animals and that is great news to all the animal lovers. The shampoo and conditioner come in 500 milliliter or 16.9 ounce containers and that is enough to last for quite a long time.
The shampoo has a gel-like consistency and has a light green tint. It lathers up pretty nicely. One wash should be enough for people with dry hair, but to those with oily hair I recommend to lather hair once to remove any kind of hair products that might’ve been used, rinse, and then lather again to get the oil out. After using the shampoo the hair becomes silky smooth and smells very nice. A don’t think that a cucumber has a very distinct and strong smell, but the shampoo has a light, sweet scent.
After all the shampoo is rinsed away follow up with the conditioner. “Yes to Cucumbers” conditioner is much thicker than the shampoo and it has an opaque, light green tint. The scents of both products are very similar. Add about a quarter size amount of the “Yes to Cucumbers” conditioner to your palm, rub your palms together and then apply the conditioner to the ends of the hair. Try not to apply it close to the scalp area because the conditioner is very thick and if it isn’t rinsed out well, limp-looking hair might be the end result. Alternating between warm and cool water helps to completely rinse the conditioner out of the ends. Towel dry until most of the water is absorbed and style as usual.
I haven’t used completely natural hair products before so I didn’t have anything to compare it to. However, I was impressed with both, the shampoo and the conditioner. My hair is color-treated and oily, and even though the shampoo and conditioner are created specifically for color-treated hair it managed to make my oily hair smooth and not weight it down. My mother has color-treated hair as well as dry hair and the shampoo and conditioner combo worked well for her too. I really liked the consistency of the shampoo but I would’ve liked for the conditioner to be a little less thick. Besides that, using “Yes to Cucumbers” shampoo and conditioner made my hair shiny and smooth and the light smell always cheers me up in the morning.
