When you watch a poker match on TV, you are given a catbirds seat, in that the cards the players are holding are known to you. I was watching a particular match the other night, and while the river card was yet to be dealt, the outcome of this game was already sure.
One player had a 100% chance of winning, the other, a 100% chance of losing. The only thing that could make this hand a total fiasco, was if the player with no chance of winning went “all in”. He did. The rest was history, game over. Better luck next time.
The Republicans are like that player, in that they see the tremendous windfall potential of privatizing medicare, and that irresistable pot has forced them to go “all in”.
The difference between the poker player and the Republican Party is, the poker player didn’t know what the other players cards were, or he would never have made that game ending bet. To do so would have been the epitome of foolishness, and yet, the Republican Party, knowing the folly of trying to kill Medicare by knowing the Polls, are blinded by the glitter of that pot of gold they see in front of them in the form of medicare privatization. Even though they know they are going to lose this game, they are still going “all in”.
I was thinking about how foolish a move they were making when a smile came across my face. I realized that the Republican Party was doing all of America a tremendous service, in that they have finally shown their true intentions, and like Newt Gingrich, no matter how much spin they try to put on this fiasco, the truth will finally be known to their base of voters, and finally, they have shown their cards to their base, who until now, believed they were bluffing about privatizing medicare.
Watching the President in the days preceeding the killing of Bin Laden, I was amazed at his “poker face”. I don’t think anyone had a clue that he was about to execute an operation that would kill Osama Bin Laden. After the mission was over, I thought to myself, “I would never want to play poker against Barack Obama. The Republicans have decided to play, and now, foolishly, they have moved “all in”.
The totallity of the loss of House and Senate seats for Republicans due to this bet won’t be fully realized until the 2012 Elections.
No wonder they are trying as hard as they can to make registering and voting more difficult. They have gone “all in”, and their only hope now is to stop the turning of the river card.
Unfortunately for them…the river card will be turned in november, and the outcome of this game is already known. The final card will be dealt in the 2012 Election.
Game over. Better luck next time.
