Smackdown biggest pickup in the WWE 2011 Draft had to be Randy Orton, and on Friday Night Smackdown the fans were so excited. The opening segment of Friday Night Smackdown began with Randy Orton making his way to the ring with a smile on his face. Orton showed off his Smackdown shirt to the fans, and he received a huge ovation. His ovation was similar to Edge’s retirement speech. Anyways, Orton was making his way to the ring with a smile on his face, which was a surprise to me, but we all know he means business.
Orton had grabbed a microphone and had intentions of addressing the Smackdown crowd. The crowd continued to cheer him on and he had to wait until the crowd finally simmered down. After the crowd finally simmered down, Randy introduced himself and said for the first time in nearly 5 years he is on the Smackdown Roster. He took the time so say that he has unfinished business with CM Punk at Extreme Rules, and suddenly here comes Drew McIntyre making his way to the ring. Drew was sporting his Raw T-shirt, and told the crowd he was moving onwards and upward to Monday Night Raw. Drew McIntyre was drafted to Raw in the supplemental draft.
Then Drew got in the ring and said to Randy that it’s a real shame that the WWE Universe won’t get the privilege of seeing Drew McIntyre against Orton in a match. Randy Orton looked as he began to hear voices in his head and the crowd wanted him to “RKO” McIntyre. Drew noticed it and told Randy Orton that he knows that Randy Orton wants to “RKO” him, but he is just there to say hello and goodbye. After Drew said goodbye, he attempted to perform the “Future Shock DDT” on Orton, but Orton countered and hit Drew with a “RKO.”
After Randy Orton finished off Drew with the “RKO” he attempted to finish his promo. Then Alex Riley, a new member of Friday Night Smackdown came down to the ring. He didn’t even get one chance to utter a single word out his mouth. He was hit with and “RKO,” and once again Orton attempted to finish addressing the crowd. The crowd was on fire and ecstatic after what seeing Orton performed the “RKO” on McIntyre and Riley.
Then, Alberto Del Rio (w/Brodus and Ricardo) came down to the ring. Del Rio told Randy that he was giving the WWE Universe a great first impression on Smackdown. Del Rio compared Orton’s first impression to his very own first impression on Smackdown. If you remember, Del Rio defeated Rey Mysterio on his debut with Friday Night Smackdown. Del Rio told the crowd that he feels bad that he is leaving Smackdown for Raw. As you already know, Del Rio was drafted to Raw in the 2011 WWE Draft. Next, Del Rio told the crowd that they will lose the World Championship this Sunday at Extreme Rules. Alberto Del Rio declared that he will take the vacant title with him to Raw after he defeats Christian in the ladder match at Extreme Rules.
Suddenly, Del Rio, Brodus Clay, and Ricardo surrounded the Viper in the ring. Del Rio told Orton “you know how to make a great first impression, but Del Rio knows how to make a lasting one.” Del Rio and his sidekicks had the intentions of assaulting Randy Orton, but Christian ran down to somewhat even the odds. Then, Teddy Long came to the entrance ramp and told them that it may be a new era on Smackdown, but he is still in charge. He declared that Christian and Orton will face Brodus and Del Rio in a tag match tonight. After the match was made Del Rio winked at Orton as he exited the ring. Brodus was dropkicked by Christian.
The tag match between Orton and Christian vs. Del Rio and Clay resulted in a victory for Orton and Christian. Christian and Randy Orton have so much momentum at the moment, and it propelled them to their victory tonight. Del Rio and Brodus plan was simply not allowing Christian to tag in his tag team partner Randy Orton. For most of the matchup, they cornered Christian and keep him from tagging in Randy. Once Randy was tagged in, the tag match began to break down. Orton gave Del Rio a series of clotheslines followed by the patented powerslam. Randy Orton attempted to give Del Rio a “RKO,” but Del Rio pushed Orton against the ropes and Brodus pulled down Orton. Next, Del Rio tagged in Orton and the match quickly ended with Orton giving Clay an “RKO.”
Christian and Orton celebrated their victory as Del Rio stood outside the ring with an angry look on his face. Orton. Christian took off his shirt and showed off his Smackdown shirt, and pointed to the vacant World Championship that was hanging above the ring. Both guys have all the momentum they need going into Extreme Rules this Sunday.
