I’ve been a fan of LUSH Cosmetics for a long time now, as you can probably tell from my many product reviews of various LUSH offerings. I am generally happy with most of the stuff I get from them, but sometimes I come across a product that is just so gimmicky that it leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
Emotibombs are exactly the kind of product that I’m talking about.
I have had a love affair with LUSH bath ballistics for years now. I have a bath every weekend and make sure I use one every single time. It’s become a ritual for me. I can see where LUSH wanted to create a new product for those of us that love bath bombs but don’t take baths every day. This is clearly a niche product, as the majority of us take daily showers instead of baths.
Emotibombs are basically bath bombs that you put in the shower. They aren’t especially fizzy, but they are fragrant and do work with the steam in the shower to release a fragrance and sort of enliven your showering experience.
LUSH used to offer a wider range of Emotibombs, but after poor sales in some scents, decided to cut a few scents out of their product line and focus on the bigger sellers. There are three Emotibombs currently available for purchase at LUSH stores and on LUSH’s website. These scents are Too Drunk…, Up You Gets, and Sex in the Shower.
The way these Emotibombs work is you simply choose a scent, stick it on the floor of your shower, and let the water and steam do their magic. These bombs are roughly the size of half of a mango. I never preferred to use a whole bomb in the shower, as I felt that my showers never lasted long enough to warrant wasting a whole bomb. I split these bombs in half; this also makes purchasing these bombs more economical if you get more than one use out of them.
Sex in the Shower is supposed to encourage you to take a shower with your loved one and try to spice things up. I’ve smelled this particular Emotibomb and I don’t find it all that sexy. It’s sort of a musty rose scent, way too heady and not at all alluring. If my fiance smelled this on me, I can tell you right now he wouldn’t be in any sort of mood because he would comment that I smelled like his grandmother. Your mileage may very.
Too Drunk… is based off a Dead Kennedys’ song with a risque title. (I was really into punk music in high school, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to share that tidbit with you.) This bomb is made for the “morning after”, when you’re so hungover and bleary-eyed that you can’t even find it in you to even get off the couch, let alone take a shower. Pop this Emotibomb in the shower with you and you should find yourself feeling better. It uses aromatherapy to sort of sooth your upset tummy and aching head. I must say that I actually sort of liked the way this smelled. It was uplifting because it had peppermint and orange scents (two of my favorite smells). I didn’t use this after a wild night of partying, however. I find that if I drink too much, the next day I can’t smell anything or else I get incredibly ill.
Up You Gets is designed for those of us that take showers in the morning and need a little extra pick-me-up. It’s got lemon, lime, and other citrus-y scents to help awaken your mind and get you started for the day. I personally love the scent of citrus and find it does help me brighten up, but this particular bomb wasn’t that fragrant in the shower for me. I think it could have used an extra herbal “kick” to help waft the scent up throughout the shower but this was sort of a dud for me. Too bad too, this was a really nice scent.
LUSH Emotibombs cost around $4 – $5 depending on which scent you get. If you feel like you could use an extra little kick in your shower, then why not give these a try? You might like them a lot better than I did.
