You might have noticed these cute, brightly-colored little spheres in your local super market or drugstore and wondered what they are. These are EOS Lip Balm Smooth Spheres and they are a revolutionary new product for those of us that have chapped lips. They’re an especially nice change of pace for those of us that are sort of bored with regular old stick lip balms.
EOS (an acronym for Evolution of Smooth) is a new company that specializes in products that are designed to smooth your skin from head to toe. Not only does EOS offer lip balms in different flavors, they also offer shaving cream, hand lotion and body lotion, as well. I am eager to try their different offerings, but for now I’m happy with my Smooth Spheres.
I found out about these spheres after visiting my local Walgreens. They had them on sale 2 for $5. They looked adorable and they were a good price, and I am always in the market for new lip balms, so I figured why not? I bought two: summer fruit and lemon drop. I will review these flavors later.
Each Smooth Sphere is just that: a round ball. The outside of the sphere is also smooth, almost velvety to the touch. I kept looking for little bits of velour or something but it is just made of a softer plastic, I think. At any rate, these things are fun to hold in your hand and fidget around with. They offer a different sensory experience for those of us that like to fiddle with our lip products when we’re not applying them.
Each sphere is also brightly colored and coordinates with their flavors. Currently, EOS offers five different flavors of Smooth Spheres: summer fruit, lemon drop (with SPF15), sweet mint, honeysuckle honeydew, and medicated tangerine. I haven’t seen the medicated tangerine in stores yet, but that doesn’t mean they won’t soon make their way, probably closer to summer when lips get especially chapped from the heat.
One of my favorite things about EOS Smooth Spheres is that they are 100% natural. That means there are no by-products (such as petroleum jelly, which is a by-product of petrol… or gas as we know it in America). It’s packed with Vitamin E and shea butter, which are both extremely beneficial to skin. These are also 95% organic, which isn’t that important to me but it is a big deal to a lot of other consumers. These also go on clear, so they are great for both men and women. My fiance often complains about how shiny or shimmery most of my lip balms are, and he is more than happy to smooth this on when he needs to.
The way these spheres feel on the lips is unmatched by any other lip balm I’ve ever had. I started my lip balm addiction with Bonne Bell Lip Smackers (as I’m sure many of you know, Lip Smackers are a “gateway” to the hard stuff!) In order to use the Smooth Sphere, you twist off the top and glide it on. It’s as simple as that. The balm part of the sphere itself looks like a little bullet or the smaller side of an egg. It really has a great contour shape to help apply it to your lips easier.
The two flavors I tried, Summer Fruit and Lemon Drop, I would most definitely get again. Summer Fruit tasted more like peaches to me (which makes sense since peaches are a fruit you can find in the summer…) and Lemon Drop tasted deliciously lemony, without being too sweet or too sour. It was perfect. I’m a lemon lover and this was right up my alley. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that this one has SPF 15, which is a must in the summer or any time that you are going to be out in the sun.
I only have a few gripes about these Smooth Spheres. The first gripe I have is that when the balm itself wears down, it gets flat and it’s really hard to apply it correctly to my lips. I can fix this by applying it with my fingers but it makes me wistful for when the balm was round and perfectly contoured. My second gripe is the fact that this sphere is WAY too big to put into my jeans pocket. This is incredibly easy to find in my purse though (I can’t very well miss a big brightly-colored ball in my purse) so I can deal with just carrying it around that way.
EOS Smooth Sphere Lip Balms are available online at Amazon and EOS’s website. They are also available at most drugstores and super markets. I plan on getting more of these when I run out; they have to be one of my most favorite lip products in my very long history of lip balm use. Try one for yourself to see if you like them. You might just find a new favorite!
