There has been much anticipation regarding the release of “Kung Fu Panda 2.” Jack Black was perfect as Po in the first film and Dustin Hoffman was really impressive as his mentor/teacher named Shifu.
“Kung Fu Panda” was a hit with children and adults, so I went to an early screening of “Kung Fu Panda 2” to get some of the crowd’s reactions to this exciting release, which is in 3-D.
Julianna Baltus, Crystal Lake, 28. “There’s something pretty thrilling about being out here with everyone else, getting ready to actually watch a kids movie, hanging out with your friends, and feeling like you’re at a pajama party. People in line are in a goofy mood, quoting lines, a couple kids are wearing a panda hat. I am pumped that Angelina Jolie is in this one. Also, Seth Rogan is hilarious and I’m curious to see his character, but mostly I would watch pretty much anything that is in 3-D!”
Ashley Baltus, Crystal Lake, 22. “Yeah, well, for me, it’s all about making me laugh. I want to laugh and just have a good time and the first one did that for me. I’m a huge fan of Jack Black, he reminds me of my Uncle. Po is like him, big, crazy and can still kick your butt!”
Joey D, Cary, IL, 17. “Hey, I just want to watch anything with 3-D. I hope there’s more interesting animals in this one. The first one was funny, but I’m expecting something more. At times I was bored with the Kung-Fu moves, but it was cool to see how they did it on screen. Jack Black rules it, man.”
Amanda Kruhl, Chicago, 41. “Kung-Fu Panda 2″ was so funny and cute. I didn’t see the first one with my kids, but I took them this time. I had heard about the animation and I was looking forward to it. I thought the kung-fu scenes were fabulous to see and it was visually appealing. At times, though, my kids were a little bored in parts. They wanted to get something to eat instead of watch some scenes. For me, it wasn’t as funny, but (my kids) were laughing more at the funny looking creatures than they were the lines.”
Kevin Kruhl, Chicago, 11. “It was okay at parts. The visuals were cool too but it was different than the first one. I liked Po and the tiger the best. I like that I got to see it first before all my friends!”
Rhonda M., Chicago, 51. “This one had a very powerful message and was like a journey of sorts and discovery. Po made me laugh and I can see Jack Black’s inner child and personality coming through this one even more. In some ways, I liked this one even better than the first. It was funny, and the message stronger. The visuals were gorgeous and the scenery was just stunning.”
Julie and Alan Pearson, Devon, U.K. 24, 25. “We loved this movie!! It was so funny, had a lot of emotion. We liked the first one, too, but we came again to see this because we could use a good laugh. It didn’t disappoint us. We wanted to see it mostly because of the 3-D. I’ve seen better animation before, but this was good. Parts reminded me of “Nemo” because he was trying to find out about his life and make a way in this world. It has beautiful images like “Nemo.” We are going again with our niece and nephews. Seth Rogan was a stand out for me, but my husband liked Po (Jack Black) the best.”
Anika L., Chicago, 45. “Freakin’ hysterical. I didn’t even know Angelina was one of the stars until I saw the credits. I didn’t recognize her and it was not that great to me. Dustin Hoffman’s Shifu was an honorable old guy, reminds me of Yoda in Star Wars, or the TV show, “Kung Fu,” that I used to watch with my dad. Parts dragged for me, and I liked the first one a little better, but the 3-D made it. I loved it.”
Trevor L., Chicago, 14. “The peacock was mean but I liked it. Po is funny and cool. The colors and scenes are awesome, I like the fight scenes and it went by pretty fast. It’s like a long video game.”
Kathryn Williamson, Chicago, 38. “The fight scenes were good, but I thought for my 5 year old, they were kind of violent. The animation was beautiful and it kept my daughter interested throughout most of the movie. This one is a little more emotional. We both cried when the little panda was weeping.”
Keith Beller, Evanston, 38. “The writing was excellent and the pacing pretty good. It had a different edge that the first one didn’t have. This one was more spiritual, too. I enjoyed the relationship between the lead characters. Very funny and kind of sweet. Seth Rogan was good and I liked that Po was showing more depth to his character.”
