Imagine my luck when I found a $10 product on clearance for just $2.24 at a nearby Target.
I was really excited to see that the Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Gel CreamLiner was on clearance for such an amazing price.
The only one left was for “blue eyes” and since I have blue eyes, it was perfect. To be honest, I would have picked it up anyways if it was for another eye color anyways, as the colors I have came across have been fairly neutral.
I have tried to find these on clearance at other stores, but to no avail. You should check your local retailers for these on sale, as they are often buy one get one half off at drugstores.
The basic theory of the eye color selection is that certain colors work better with different eye colors.
For blue eyes like mine, retailers assume that blues and browns work better. While I do think that these colors look fine, I also think that plum shades look nice too.
This color combination that I purchased has a blue, brown, and black shade.
The gel liners come in small cubes that act as one another’s lids. I think this is an ingenious idea and helps keep the eyeliners together. This is perfect for me as I do a fair amount of traveling. I tend to go out of town at least once a month, and this is great for on the go. You can also snap each cube off to make it an individual, but I like the idea of keeping these together. There is 6 grams of product total, so assumedly 2 grams of cream liner per shade.
The packaging, like I said, is really nice. I find that it is pretty sturdy and very pretty. Each lid of the eyeliner is a bold sapphire blue and the cube containing the eyeliner is clear so that you can see each shade.
Once you unscrew the cap, or cube, of the eyeliner you wish to use, you will find that the included brush is the perfect little size to get a small amount of liner out.
The liner glides on smoothly and is honestly the best cream eyeliner I have tried to date.
The top color is blue and is about the same sapphire blue color as the packaging. There is a small amount of shimmer, but nothing too gaudy and the color is just gorgeous.
The second color is the brown shade and this is the first one I wore. This comes off a brownish bronze shade and is not too dark. Some browns can look black, but this one does not. There is a small amount of shimmer to this one as well, but only comes off as a sheen when applied.
The black looks like a normal matte black, but once you dip the brush into it, a small sheen of dark blue glitter emerges. This glitter seems a bit larger than the other colors glitter, but nothing huge at all. The blue glitter is about the same shade as the blue liner, so it is not very noticeable, but it is definitely there.
I really liked the shades and the creamy consistency. I really thought these would transfer to my lid, but they did not. After they dry, they are there! I had a hard time washing them off of my hand when I first swatched them. I knew that I would have to use an eye makeup remover when taking it off at the end of the day. I decided to use “sweet oil”, which worked well. You can always use cleansing oil or makeup wipes to remove. With my cleansing oil, I had no trouble getting it off. Please use your own discretion when applying products to the eye area and make sure you use what is best for your needs.
I even applied this liner to the bottom lash line, which is something I would probably not do with liquid liner. It worked so great and you can really combine these colors to make a dramatic look.
Overall, I really think that even at full price, I would get these liners. I know some have a problem with liners drying out, so make sure to fully close each cube to ensure longer lasting creaminess.
