Bulldogs,Huskies, Wildcats, or Rams- which one of these characters are you cheering on? What are they you might ask? Well, if you are a basketball fan or a student at any of the four colleges represented in the NCAA Final Four then I am sure you know what they are and I am sure that you have your favorite. They are The Butler Bulldogs, Connecticut Huskies, Kentucky Wildcats, and the Virginia Commonwealth mascots and college team names that will represent their various colleges in the NCAA championship Final Four. Each team has worked its way into the last two games of the championship.
Butler is a returning Cinderella team that no one expected to get far last year, but they made it to the Final Four then too. This year Butler fans are hoping for a win during the last two games to become NCAA champions. They will be cheered on by the many fans both at home and that will travel to the game. Indiana has a love for basketball and no doubts that many Hoosiers will be watching the Bulldogs as they face the next game. The last Indiana team to make it to the NCAA championship game was the Indiana University Hoosiers led by Coach Bobby Knight.
The Connecticut Huskies ,led by Coach Jim Calhoun, are ecstatic to be in the Final Four following a win against Arizona. This will make their fourth trip to the Final Four and many Huskies fans hope this is the year that they will win the elite championship and will become the number one team in the league. Kemba Walker seems to be the “star” of the team this year, although everyone knows that it takes an entire team working together to get this far.
The Huskies will be up against one of the most well-known teams in the college group- The Kentucky Wildcats. The Wildcats coached by John Calipari pulled a huge surprise victory over second seeded North Carolina with a 5 point victory. Calipari’s team has been all over the board this year, but with Brandon Knight leading the scoreboard with 22 points they were the Tar heels enemy at this game to get into the Final Four.
Finally, the most unexpected team to be in the Final Four this year is the Virginia Commonwealth Rams. This 11Th-seeded team was never expected to get into the Final Four and certainly was never a team that the Kansas Jay hawks felt that they would lose too. Even the Rams didn’t think that they stood a chance when up against the number one seeded team in the NCAA playoffs. However, Coach Shaka Smart and his Rams team will be headed to Houston to play against the Butler Bulldogs in a game that is sure to be full of surprises and excitement. The Rams have certainly been the upset of the NCAA tournament this year. They are one of only three 11-seeded teams to ever be in the Final Four with the other two being George Mason in 2006 and LSU in 1986.
All basketball fans will have their eyes set on the next two games in Houston as these four teams attempt to win the coveted NCAA championship title. All fans will be cheering on their teams and the coaches and players will be working hard to be the next champions. I will be cheering for Butler, but I must say that if the Rams play well and beat Butler then I will cheer them on in the final game just because it is nice to see an underdog win occasionally.
