It was a hot spring day. I had been waiting for this day for years, and today it is finally here. Today is my Communion Day. Today is not only my communion day, but today is the day my true self gets recognized. The first thing I did that day was go to church and receive my communion, for the first time. How exciting! After the church ceremony, some of my cousins, their parents, some of my uncles and aunts, my parents and siblings, and I had gone home to change our clothes and get ready for the time of our lives, my HUGE party. Before anything else, my dad had told me to not be shy and dance at my party. Well, to be honest it’s not only my party, but my sister, Lona’s, too.
I thought, well this is going to be a normal party, food, guests, music, a DJ, and of course, entertainment. But, I was so wrong! The party was the exact opposite of what I thought it would be. After, everyone was all ready; we headed down to “Ryan Palace”.
“Ryan Palace” was the gorgeous place I had my communion at. The place was like a real Palace! I was amazed by what I saw. When we arrived, there was my dad’s cousin, his family and a couple of other people already there. I guess we were “fashionably late.” The party started off with all the kids walking in a line and religious music was on. Everyone there was wearing gowns that seemed to be gleaming. If not, they were wearing suits as if the suits were the sky at nighttime. After the line with the kids, Arabic music began to fill the whole place. A whole bunch of adults, and some of my friends and cousins, entered the dance floor. Almost half of them were snatching me to dance with them, others, encouraged me to dance. I was a bit shy, so I just moved my hips and held my cousin’s soft, cool, and cozy hand. I saw my friend approach the dance floor and fled to her, held her, told her to dance, and then I myself started to dance. She quickly followed me and we danced. I got a bit warm and I went to the man at the bar and got an ice-cold Coke. When I wanted to go back and join my friend in dancing, a hand held my arm abruptly. I turned to soon find my dad. He wanted Lona and I to take a “couple” pictures. A couple soon tuned to 4 then 8 then 16 and so on. I wasn’t a big fan of this, but on the other hand, it was kind of fun. After the eye-blinding journey, we headed down to our table and had a feast. After a couple of minutes, that soon ended, because my dad had called my family and I to go on stage and say a prayer. My brother passed and horsed around with his cousins and friends. I wasn’t surprised; he always does stuff like this.
After our prayers had been said, my sister and I headed down to get every single kid on the dance floor- no parents or adults, just kids. We did this because; we had a CD with songs like the Macarena, Cupid Shuffle, Chicken Dance and much more. Kids began to fill the dance floor like how ants surround a breadcrumb. I was the “Center of Attention”. That was because I knew the dances really well. Everyone applauded after our great moves were over. The songs on the CD finished, and all the kids booed because they had so much fun doing the moves and dancing along to the songs. Arabic music suddenly boomed on. Some kids went to their seat, some stayed and danced either with my sister or me. You could not believe how many kids asked the DJ for English music. After a while, the DJ finally surrendered to us, The Kids! He then told us, “OK, after this song, I’ll put on English music. Just wait.” We cheered in our win. And the DJ, well, he didn’t really care. Considering, that he was drunk. I must’ve drunk something awkward that day because, right when the English music came on, I started to dance as fast as a cheetah chasing its prey! I went totally berserk! After people saw me, they took out their phones, cameras, and video recorders and started taking pictures and videos of me! My face was as red as a tomato! Hey, my dad did tell me not to be shy, and that’s exactly what I did!
After that night, a lot of parties I went to ended in me doing what I did above.
I always wish I could relive that fun, crazy, unforgettable, and totally wild night!
