The best motorcycle that I ever owned was a Harley Davidson standard softail. The bike was Luxerious red. A flashy bike that someone else had orderd. Unfortunatly for them they had credit problems when the bike arrived at the dealership. This was lucky for me because whoever orderd the bike knew what he was doing. This was a custom bike straight from the dealer. Most people would have not changed a thing. Of course like many bike owners we are not most people. I made several adjustments to the bike for my size. I am over six feet tall and I like a lot of room.
The bike fed a need in me that I never really understood. When I got the itch to ride nothing would stop me. Pouring rain or bitter cold would not stop me. The bitter cold did get me to put fleece linning in my chaps.I was determined but I am generaly no fool. I bought the bike in Austin Texas and if you have ever been in a Texas rainstorm then you know how serious I was. It rains so hard in Texas that a line of cars will stop dead in the road until the rain passes. Some may say that I am crazy for going out in such weather I prefer the word determined. Of course determined to be crazy works too. After all I was a biker.
One of the unexpected benifits of riding a motorcycle is the vibration. Not all motorcycles have a lot of vibration some companies brag about thier vibration free bikes. The fools. When you are riding a bike that has the right amount of vibration you get a rolling message. You can see it on the faces of other bikers as they pass you. They have this blissful smile on thier face. Their bodies have just suddenly relaxed and you get this silly expession of joy on your face. The expression does not last long but the effects last long after the ride.
Of course riding a Harley there certain expectations that you are required to preform. I am speaking of the Christmas toy runs for needy children. Well over a hundred bikes heading together is a powerful feeling. The vibration from all those bikes pumps you up you can almost wield the power you feel. It is the kind of power that raises mountains moves continents and all that power is in you. You feel driven to preform some superhuman deed. Luckily for everyone there was no superhuman deeds to be done that day. I have found the police really hate it when I preform superhuman deeds.
Will my next bike be another Harley? I am really interested in the Indian motorcycles. A friend of mine let me sit on his to get the feel of it. This is a big deal most bikers won’t let anyone on their bike for any reason. It is a do not even ask thing. Of course I had to let him sit on my bike before I tried his bike out. The balance of the Indian was amazing it was like sitting on a bicycle. Its not a done deal but my next article may be about my amazing Indian.
