Fresh off of the revelation that her ex has a child with a household staff member, Maria Shriver has addressed former husband Arnold Schwarzenegger’s shocking news.
Seeming as if she had not known about the love child, Miss Shriver sadly stated to People magazine, “This is a painful and heartbreaking time.”
She continued, “As a mother, my concern is for the children. I ask for compassion, respect and privacy as my children and I try to rebuild our lives and heal. I will have no further comment.”
The news of Schwarzenegger’s child fathered over ten years ago comes after he and Shriver separated last week after being married for 25 years.
Spending some quality time together, Arnold Schwarzenegger and daughter Christina stopped for a cool drink at a Santa Monica Starbucks earlier today (May 17).
The father-daughter duo took a leisurely stroll together before sharing a warm embrace and parting ways, leaving the former governor to hop on his bicycle for a ride home.
It’s been a family-filled couple of days amidst looming infidelity revelations for Arnold, as the “Terminator” star has admitted that he fathered a child out of wedlock .
Making matters worse, Schwarzenegger told that the child was born over a decade ago and the mother is a longtime member of household staff.
A statement released by the actor read, “After leaving the governor’s office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago.”
He told, “I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.”
Arnold added, “I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time. While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not. “
Now that the news of their split has set in, family attorney Robert Brandt recently stepped forward to sort out the possibilities of a divorce between Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver – even addressing whether the famous pair signed a prenup.
The family lawyer addressed questions over whether the wildly wealthy couple signed an all-important prenuptial agreement before tying the knot, telling, “We are talking about a world famous actor who was making $20 million a movie before he became governor. We are talking about someone who is in the Kennedy family — one of the most famous, wealthy families in the world. A case like this, if they don’t work it out, could involve tremendous sums of money. We could be talking about upwards of a billion dollars in net worth.”
The Los Angeles based attorney continued, “Under California law, all community property has to be equally divided. So if we are talking about a billion dollars in acquisitions — from the date of marriage to the date of separation — each one of them is going to end up with half a billion dollars, absolutely.”
Based on his experience, Brandt added, “I would have to think that considering she was from the Kennedy clan, and he had already done many, many movies and was extremely successful — and he was an actor — they certainly had to have thought about a prenuptial agreement.”
