Learn German at the German American School in New York

I was looking for a German school in New York for children and came across the German American School of New York in a local newspaper. I spoke to the director of the German American School in New York to see if my twin girls who do not speak any German would be suitable for Playgroup Program for ages 4-5. I was very excited to hear that they would be fine and that the first class is just an introduction to the German language and culture through fun and games. I was also advised to sign the girls up quickly as their German classes get booked fast.

Here’s what I found out about the The German American School in New York. The German American School in New York has been teaching children since 1892. The German American School has been accredited for the German Language Regents since 1911.

We sent our girls to the German American School in New York at the Franklin Square location to learn German two years ago and are so pleased with the program, the teachers and the location that we are signing up our girls for a third year with our son right behind them.

At the German American School in New York, each grade has their own routine but the younger classes have performances for the parents. Those special performances are adorable. The children sing traditional German songs and sometimes do a little dance with their classmates.

The German American School in New York teaches “High German”. High German is the German language that NY State tests for on the German Language Regents Exam.

The German classes meet for 1 hour and 45 minutes. In almost two hours a week, our children come home with arts and crafts projects relating to their new vocabulary words, a good amount of homework and a smile on their face. They are so proud of their accomplishments at the German American School in New York and love to show off their new crafts.

As the girls learn German at the German American School in New York, so do I. I keep a German American translation dictionary in my kitchen to refer to often. The girls laugh with me when I get something right and correct me when I’m wrong. Its a real learning experience for all of us.

Learning a second language for any child is a wonderful life long asset. I highly recommend the German American School in New York if you are considering teaching your child German.
