The sky is lighting up this year in Tampa and its surrounding areas! Plan ahead and you won’t be caught without a game plan this July 4th weekend. The cities of Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater offer everything from celebrations at an art museum to FC Tampa Bay soccer and fireworks. Whatever your family’s interests, there’s plenty to do this year while you’re waiting for the fireworks displays.
This year marks the Tenth Annual Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration at Channelside. The event is open to the public and is free. Live music and entertainment starts Monday at 2 p.m. and continues to the fireworks, which start at 9 p.m. No lawn chairs or coolers are permitted, and personal fireworks are prohibited for the safety of all guests.
If you want your fireworks display to make a real splash this year, consider the Florida Aquarium, which is extending its hours on July 4th so that you can check out the night lights from one of the most beautiful and family-friendly spots in Channelside.
For this special night, admission drops to just $10 after 3 p.m., and the Aquarium and its exhibits and cafe will remain open so you can enjoy the aquarium and still see the fireworks! Parking for the event is an additional $10. Chairs are not permitted inside the aquarium. For more information, call (813) 273-4568.
Have a ball this July 4th with the FC Tampa Bay as they go head-to-head against the Strikers at 6 p.m. One of the best state rivalries, it promises to be an explosive soccer match, with fireworks after the game! Share the fun with your family at Al Lang Stadium, 230 First Street South, in St. Pete. For ticket information, call (813) 287-1539, or visit the FC Tampa Bay website.
If your inclination this year is more “art” and less “kick”, head to the Museum of Fine Arts Fourth of July Celebration. Enjoy live entertainment, an all-you-can-eat barbecue with smoked beef brisket, pulled pork and grilled chicken, a champagne toast and an air-conditioned view of the sky as it lights up this year. The cost is $34 for museum members and $44 for non-members. The event begins at 6 p.m. and continues through the fireworks display. Space is limited to the first 150 reserved seats. Call ( 727) 896-2667 for reservations and directions. The MFA is located at 255 Beach Drive North East, St. Petersburg.
For a whole day of family fun, head down to the St. Petersburg 4th of July Extravaganza at the Pier . Events run from 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m., when the City of St. Pete puts on a free fireworks display over the waters of Spa Beach! Enjoy face painting, hypnotists, live bands and more! Check out “George Washington”, who will provide some historical character to the festivities from 2-5 p.m.
Bring your family for a musical evening in the park filled with fireworks, food and fun in Clearwater. Clearwater Celebrates America features activities for children, food vendors and live music from the Mostly Pops Orchestra with John and Mary K. Wilson, with a fireworks display afterward. Admission to Coachman Park is free. Get there early and enjoy the day in the park with your family! The celebration begins at 4 p.m. and continues through 10 p.m. Visit the Armed Forces Museum exhibit while you’re there.
For July 4th only, coolers are permitted in the park; however, no alcoholic beverages, glass containers or bottles, umbrellas, canopies, pets, or personal fireworks are allowed for the safety of all park visitors. Coachman Park is located at 301 Drew Street in Clearwater.
