I feel Jabbawockeez stands alone as “The Most Unusual Show of the Year”! Perhaps it is the infectious beat of their music, the precision timing of their dancing, the dazzling costumes, or for so many other reasons. I feel their success is all these factors and more. Jabbawockeez is a “Mind-Blowing Show!”
The announcer sets the mood for the show. “Everything has a motion. Have you ever seen the colors of sound, the colors of the melody of birds?” They feel the show gives sound a visual shape, an audiovisual movement, a sight to sound. The chorographer synchronized the production with flashing colored lights jumping to the beat of a variety of sounds while the dancers matched the beats with their movements. There was a frenzy of strange sounds as the beat suddenly went wild.
Everything about Jabbawockeez is different. Watch for the dancers when they made their entrances tumbling, floor-walking on their back, jumping, and acrobatic techniques. Each time I sit in the audience, I am amazed at the creativity which went into their production.
Their extraordinary fusion combines story-telling with popping, hip hop, freestyle, break dancing, and other styles of dancing. As comic breaks in the show, even the audience is involved at times. Jabbawockeez were recently celebrating the release of their debut single “Robot Remains” at the Aria Hotel with a media reception and party. Established in 2003, this young professional dance crew has developed a one-of-a-kind style and culture setting new standards in the industry. Awarded the championship on MTV’s “Randy Jackson Presents America’s Best Dance Crew”, the Jabbawockeez campaigned for Gatorade with their “G” campaign spawning TV ad’s with Muhammad Ali and Michael Jordan. Additionally the group opened for the nationally televised NBA All-Star Game and performed with Shaquille O’Neal making national headlines.
The name is derived from the fictional creature in Lewis Carroll’s poem, “Jabberwocky.” Known for creativity, unique choreography, athleticism and intricate synchronization, the Jabbawockeez are poised to change the way we see dance.
Jabbawockeez is a show which you can be seen again and again. This is the second time I have been invited to see the Jabbawockeez MUS.I.C. (Muse-i-see), first during their opening at the MGM Grand, and tonight, at the premiere of their new show, in the Monte Carlo Hotel. The evening began with a cocktail party in the Ignite Lounge before the show. Then everyone made their way into the Monte Carlo Theater, later the festivities continued with an after-party where we met the cast.
Jabbawockeez shows: Tuesday- Saturday, 9:30 pm.
