Judy Garland was best known for her 1939 breakthrough role as Dorothy in MGM’s musical triumph, The Wizard of Oz. However, Miss Garland went on to make countless films, musicals, albums, and even her very own television show.
Judy stood out from the many actresses at MGM because of her dark hair and short stature. She was always known for her kind warms and loving spirit.
Miss Garland’s appearance was always impeccable, and she had a flawless sense of style and class. Let’s go over her trademark look, and how we can imitate her style today.
Eyebrows: While many actresses at that time sported razor thin eyebrows, or even shaved and penciled eyebrows, Judy kept hers at a natural yet well groomed shape. Carefully comb your eyebrows in a natural arch, and pencil in to make your brows appear smooth and even.
Eyelashes: Judy Garland rarely left the house without her false lashes. If you’ve never worn false lashes before, they can be just a little bit tricky at first. Practice with an inexpensive set that comes with glue. You may want to trim the lashes to fit the width of your natural lash line. Draw a thin line of glue on the edge of the lashes (never apply glue to your own lashes) and let dry for about ten seconds, or until glue becomes slightly tacky. Then press the false lashes against your lash line and hold for a few seconds. It’s sometimes helpful to use a pair of tweezers to position the lashes exactly as you would like them
Neutral Make-up: Judy almost never wore colored eye shadow or conspicuous blush. Sticking with neutral shades will allow your natural beauty to shine through!
Lipstick: Judy did, however, love red lipstick. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find a photo of her without her lipstick on. Try a shade like Smashbox’s Photo Finish Lipstick in Legendary . Apply a lip balm before the lipstick to keep your lips smooth, and then apply the lipstick over the balm. Be sure to fill in all of your lips line to create that full, bee-stung lips.
Hair: Whether she wore it glamorously down, or in a neatly coiffed up-do, you would never find any of Judy’s hair out of place. Could you imagine one of the classy ladies of of the Silver Screen with tousled, beachy hair? These women knew how to be sophisticated!
Clothing: Judy was always clothed in a very lady like fashion, but wasn’t afraid to try new trends and daring designs. Think pencil skirts, feminine blouses and luxurious accessories like statement earrings, cocktail rings and furs.
Shoes: Because of her small frame, she was rarely seen without her high heels. Nothing speaks of glamor like a great pair of heels.
