Have you ever wondered what to do with your old, metal, gingerbread man cookie cutters? Why not consider using them to make a unique centerpiece for your holiday table? They also work well as place card holders or hostess gifts. Sound interesting? Here is what you need to know in order to make a set of your own:
Gingerbread Men Cookie Cutter Centerpiece Materials List
In order to make a set of gingerbread men cookie cutter centerpieces you will need to gather together the following materials;
1 hot glue gun with glue sticks
3 clay pots with saucers, 5 inch diameter
1 craft sponge
1 medium bag of craft moss
1 medium bag of small pine cones
3 wooden dowels, 4 inches long by ¼ inches round
½ pound bag of dried cranberries
3 metal gingerbread man cookie cutters
1 bag plaster of paris
1 large bucket
1 wooden paint stir
1 paint palette or pie tin
1 bottle copper acrylic paint
1 bottle green acrylic paint
1 box small nails
1 roll gingham red ribbon, optional
Step 1: Preparing the Clay Pots
Start by taking out the three wooden dowels, the bag of plaster of paris and the three clay pots. Following the manufacturer’s instructions, mix up a batch of plaster of paris into a large bucket. Carefully pour the prepared plaster into each clay pot, being sure to fill each just below the rim. Once the plaster of paris has been poured into the clay pots, insert one wooden dowel into each one. Allow the plaster to harden. At this point you should have three clay pots each with a wooden dowel sticking out of it.
Step 2: Decorating the Clay Pots
For this next step you will need a craft sponge, acrylic paints and a paint palette. Squeeze a reasonable amount of each acrylic paint color onto your paint palette. Dip your craft sponge into the copper paint and use it to paint the clay pot and the clay saucer. Let the clay pots and saucers dry while you clean and dry your craft sponge. Then use the craft sponge to paint each wooden dowel green. Allow the clay pots, saucers and wooden dowels to dry completely before proceeding on to the next step.
Step 3: Decorating the Clay Pots
Continue this project by taking out your hot glue gun and loading it with glue. Use it to glue one clay pot to each saucer. Then glue the craft moss onto the exposed plaster of paris inside each clay pot so that no plaster is showing through. Next, glue the miniature pine cones and dried cranberries on top of the craft moss. You may also opt to attach a gingham ribbon around the outside of the clay pot as well. Allow the decorations to dry.
Step 4: Attaching the Gingerbread Man Cookie Cutters
In order to complete this final step you will need a box of nails, a hammer and your metal cookie cutters. Position one gingerbread man cookie cutter over the top of one wooden dowel. Then use the hammer and a nail to attach the cookie cutter to the top of the wooden dowel. Repeat this step until each dowel has a cookie cutter. Once the gingerbread man cookie cutters have been attached to the wooden dowels the decoration is complete and ready for use.
