How to Make Carousel Cupcakes

What you’ll need:
Animal crackers (cookies)
Wooden skewers
Writing gel
Jelly beans

Whether it’s a huge carousel at a theme park, or a tiny one outside of your local grocery store, kids love carousels. It’s just a simple ride, on plastic ponies or other animals, and there’s usually some carnival-type music playing while the animals – and kids – go round and round. The problem with a carousel is that kids just don’t want to get off of it and go home. But your child won’t holler for more rides when you promise him carousel cupcakes when you get home!

A room full of kids at your child’s birthday party, or just you and the family, will love carousel cupcakes. Although they look like they’re for a child they taste great to anyone!

Make a batch of cupcakes in any flavor/color. Make them from a boxed mix or your favorite recipe. Line a muffin pan with cupcake wrappers, bake, according to instructions or recipe, then allow to cool completely.

Remove the wrappers from all the cupcakes. Cut the tops off of the cupcakes to separate them from the bottoms. Set all the cupcakes in the freezer for a half-hour. This will enable you to frost them without getting crumbs in your frosting. Or, melt the frosting in the microwave and brush it on.

If you’ve frozen the cupcakes, remove them and frost the entire bottom, except for its bottom, and the entire top, except for its bottom. If you’re melting the frosting, melt it in the microwave for a few seconds, stirring, until it’s soupy. Brush the watery frosting on each half of the cupcake, except for their bottoms.

Paint four animal crackers (cookies) with your choice of colors of gel frosting. All four crackers must be the same size but can be different colors. Stand them on the bottom cupcake, encircling the top, and spacing them evenly apart. Press a skewer into the center of the cupcake and cut it to be a bit taller than the animal crackers.

Position the top of the cupcake on the skewer as well as the four animal crackers. Draw lines on the cupcake, from the top, down, so that you make it into four quadrants. Gather some jelly beans – in your choice of colors – on the top, center of the cupcake.

Draw a line around the outside of the bottom cupcake. Draw one near the top and one near the bottom. Between them, make a row of jelly beans, all the way around (more than one row around the cupcake if you want).

The carousel cupcakes are sweet as they can be in more ways than one! Your child – and anyone else who tries one – will want another!
