Unless you live out in the middle of nowhere, you have to deal with neighbors and unfortunately you can’t choose your neighbors so you may get stuck living next door to people who are rude, loud, and obnoxious.
Some people are lucky and get to live next door to people who are kind, giving and are people you can be friends with and count on when you need something. But you could end up living next door to people that borrow your stuff and never return it, play loud music until late hours of the night, and don’t have any courtesy for those around them. If you are the lucky ones and have neighbors that seem to be sent from heaven, that’s great. But if your neighbors are anything like they second set of neighbors that I described, than you may not feel so lucky.
Dealing with difficult neighbors can be a very hard thing to do, but here are some tips that will help you out.
Try talking to your neighbors about how you feel. You should do this in a calm and orderly fashion and you should think about what it is you are going to say before you go. This way you won’t be going over there and thinking off the top of your head. If you do this, you may end up saying the wrong thing and than everyone gets angry. Consider saying something like this:
-“My family and I have a hard time sleeping at night because you are playing your music too loudly, it’s great that you like to have an exciting night life, but we don’t want to keep losing sleep so can you please keep it down or at least have the music down by a certain time of the night?”
-“You borrowed my chainsaw a couple weeks ago and you haven’t returned it, may I please have it back?”
There is no need to be rude or mean about it since that won’t solve anything. Just because your neighbors are rude doesn’t mean you have to be, right? Deal with things like an adult, don’t handle it like children.
If you live in an apartment, this is simple and easy to do since all you’ll have to do is talk to your landlord about how loud your neighbors are. Keep track of all the things they have done wrong by writing down all disturbances in a notebook. Show this to your landlord so that way he knows and can do something about it. Sometimes if people who live in apartments get too many complaints about their noise levels, they can get evicted.
If you live in a house and you constantly hear your neighbors partying or just being loud than call the police and they will tell them to keep it down.
Rude and loud neighbors can be very difficult to deal with, and if you can’t take it anymore than you need to take action. If you just sit in your home and deal with their nonsense behavior than of course your neighbors are going to think that it doesn’t bother you. Do something about it.
