As a mother, I am constantly heating up chicken nuggets for my children. They are my go-to food when I am in a rush, not in the mood for cooking, or just trying to please everyone. However, recently I was saying to my husband that the kids had a great dinner of chicken nuggets, green beans and apple slices. My husband laughed and I sneered. He then went on to tell me to examine the “excuse for chicken nuggets” that I had been feeding my family. So, hours later when he was asleep, I tiptoed downstairs to examine the package, looked at the paragraph of ingredients and preservatives, tossed them in the trash and vowed to find a healthy chicken nugget.
The next day, as I was strolling through Whole Foods and looking for my new go-to nugget, I came across Bell and Evan’s Breaded Chicken Breast Nugget and noticed it had a small golden medal in the corner that read, “Inspected for wholesomeness by U.S. Department of Agriculture.” Not bad, I thought. So I turned over the box to find a very short list of ingredients- as opposed to the jam packed paragraph I had seen on the nuggets pack from the night before.
The Ingredients included….
Chicken breast meat, water and salt, breaded with unbleached wheat flour, water, salt, evaporated cane juice, dried yeast, spices and paprika.
These immediately put my mind at ease with the realization that I would actually be feeding my children quality poultry.

So, the quality of the chicken nuggets is definitely great. The next check for me, as a busy mom, was how easy would it be to prepare and would my children actually eat it?
Preparation: Cooking the chicken nuggets is not as easy as popping them in the microwave, which I was always used to. However, this is because the chicken is uncooked, which only demonstrates the quality. It is recommended that the oven is preheated to 375 degrees and they are placed on a baking sheet to bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Now, this is a bit long to wait for a chicken nugget, when you are use to 2 minutes in the microwave. But considering the quality of the poultry, it seems worth the extra wait time.
The ultimate kid taste test:
My children must approve the chicken nuggets, or what is the point of having them? I am a vegetarian after all. So, I placed the nuggets on their plates, alongside heaps of ketchup and stood back. Let’s just say that my five year old finished 5 nuggets in 5 minutes, and then stole two from his baby sister. My husband also tried the nuggets and said that they were the best chicken nuggets he had ever tasted. So, I found my go-to nugget without sacrificing quality and nutrition!!
