The article “Obama: Debt Ceiling Talks Fell Apart, Boehner Walked Out” shows that President Obama is desperate in his attempts to get a deal as on him alone is the burden of assuring the US government doesn’t default on its loans. Given the gravity of the situation and the depravity of his bargaining partners it is understandable that he is too desperate, but the old adage is that those types get left at the altar and he has been twice.
I can understand President Obama’s desperation. If I was dealing with an insane person, who has to get agreements from a group of even more insane individuals, and there was a deadline rapidly approaching, I would be getting kind of antsy also.
Tea Partiers are talking impeachment if Obama takes 14th amendment recourse if all of the deals to raise the debt limit don’t work as this quote illustrates “This president is looking to usurp congressional oversight to find a way to get it done without us. My position is that is an impeachable act from my perspective,” said Rep. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) at a meeting sponsored by the Tea Party group LowCountry 9.12 Project on July 26th.
Does that sound insane?
Last week Boehner blew President Obama off twice so that he could suck up to the Tea Partiers and their House overseer Cantor.
The article states “A Democratic source told The Huffington Post that the president had called Boehner on Thursday evening to discuss the deal, but never heard back. The president tried again Friday afternoon. He finally got a return call at 5:30 p.m. The speaker, the source added, briefed the press about his decision to pull out of the deal before telling Obama.
“I’ve been left at the altar now a couple of times,” said Obama.”
Red staters, such disrespect for the President doesn’t occur in a real life, but does in this Tea Party driven quasi-politics we are in today. They might not actually hold as much power as Boehner, Cantor and McConnell intimate, but using them as the bogeyman helps the GOP.
President Obama’s concessions to Boehner are making President Obama’s liberal backers angry, but the President can’t let the US default and Boehner knows this and knows his proles respond positively to tactics that appeal to their baser instincts. What has this phony mess created by GOP intransigence been other than an assault against the weak, elitist liberal scum and their US social safety net? The GOP just happens to possess proles now who have been brainwashed since the days of “Teflon Ronnie” about the evils of the US government. Never before has the US been put this close to not being able to raise its debt limit and never before has a political party decided to associate deficit reduction to raising its debt limit. Proles don’t remember that during W’s 8 years the debt limit was raised 7 times. The proles are stressed to the mental and physical limit just to survive so realizing current event facts is simply beyond them. Also, the Democrats allowed W, to raise it without making a major production out of it, which no party has ever done prior to now. According to the CRS report, since 1962, Congress voted through 74 separate measures to raise the debt ceiling, and now the “party of no” creates this crisis of epic proportion out of nothing!.
Last week’s concession to the GOP were astounding as the article states “President Obama said that he couldn’t believe Boehner walked away from the proposal he was offering: $3.5 trillion in spending cuts over 10 years, smaller tax increases than those laid out in a bipartisan Senate plan and cuts to entitlement programs, something Democrats have pushed hard against. It also didn’t include revenues that Obama has insisted be in a final package, namely via closing tax loopholes and ending subsidies for the oil and gas industry.
“In other words, this was an extraordinarily fair deal,” Obama told reporters. “If it was unbalanced, it was unbalanced in the direction of not enough revenue.”
The president appeared genuinely flummoxed at the talks falling apart, saying there “doesn’t seem to be a capacity for [Republicans] to say yes.”
The real fear is, as the article states “If you’ve got the speaker walking away from the White House — astonishing in and of itself — the next step is meltdown in the markets, “Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) said.”This is tempting the markets to turn, and when they do, it will be sudden and savage, then things will be out of control and the damage will be huge and irreversible.”
President Obama is saying he has been left the altar and Boehner is saying that President Obama is asking for $400 billion in revenue. They are making contradictory remarks.
In a truly disreputable scam the GOP laid a trap for President Clinton when they impeached him primarily on committing perjury. Are they making up another similar dodge and laying the foundations for claiming President Obama has misrepresented his demands for an additional $400 billion in revenue?
Never before has a party thrown away valuable time and resources on the mundane task of raising its debt limit. I wouldn’t put any disreputable “politics of personal destruction” tactic past the GOP.
I’m not the only person thinking about lying. The article “Boehner contradicts his own timeline on collapse of ‘agreement'” notes that a GOP luminary, who is, not in so many words, but it is clearly his intention, accusing President Obama to be a liar about, at the minimum, the additional $400 billion in revenue.
The article concludes “So on Friday, John Boehner claimed he had an agreement on revenue up until it fell apart on Thursday, when the White House asked him for $400 billion more in revenue. Then, on Sunday, he claimed the agreement had fallen apart on Tuesday, and that President Obama hadn’t specifically demanded $400 billion until Friday.
But at least Boehner did at one point agree to $800 billion in real, actual honest-to-God new revenue, right? Well, maybe not.”
Somebody isn’t telling the truth about when the added $400 billion was inserted into the discussions between Obama and Boehner on raising debt limit.
It is important to keep things in perspective and look at how this calamity has advanced sequentially. Until now, and including last week’s activity, you’d think that the GOP had debased President Obama enough. Maybe they are just starting and Rep. Scott’s idea of impeachment proceedings will be rolled out just in time for the next election.
The article “Ratings Agency Source: Boehner Plan Would Lead To Downgrade Of U.S. Debt, Reid Plan Would Preserve AAA Rating ” makes you understand how evil the GOP is.
We have no reason for this crisis other than as a result of the “party of no’s” vindictiveness and desire for petty partisan gain.
You’d think that with the crisis’ deadline rapidly approaching the GOP would get out of the scoring cheap political points mode and start seriously attempting to raise the debt limit. You would if you weren’t paying attention to the GOP mode of operations recently and throughout history.
The article states “Today on CNN, Erin Burnett reported that she spoke with an investor who talked directly with the credit ratings agency Standard & Poor’s. According to the Standard & Poor’s source, John Boehner’s debt plan would probably still lead to a downgrade of U.S. debt by the ratings agencies, raising interest rates for all Americans. Harry Reid’s plan, however, would preserve America’s AAA credit rating.”
Can they possibly not care what happens to the US economy? I’ve heard Tea Party GOP operatives say as much and that it would better to not raise the debt limit than continue to spend as freely as the US currently does, but are the grownups in the GOP going to allow this disaster to occur? This situation isn’t similar to being in a car without breaks approaching a cliff. There isn’t much time but this crisis can be averted, unless the GOP senior operatives continue to use the Tea Party freshman as cover as they advance their goal of raping us all of the US social service net.
