50,000 Jobs in one day! McDonald’s is going to pull off a truly amazing feat! According to Nation Master there are 12,804 locations in the US. That means they will be hiring at least 4 new employees on average per store. So if your town is like mine with a McDonald’s ever 2 miles then at any point there will be 20 job opportunites within a 5 mile radius. I like those odds.
If your looking for a career with constant opportunites for advancement, McDonald’s may be your ticket. They love to promote from within. 75% of their upper level staff started out with a mop or french fry stained clothing. This does not mean if you have management background you are out of luck. 600 of those positions will go to “upstairs” and “shiny-shoe” personel. Which in this instance, would change those numbers to about 98% or 1 manager to ever 165 entry level new hires.
You may want to wake up early and get in line on the day of this extravaganza of employment scheduled for April 19th 2011. When they had a similar event last year, 60,000 people applied for the 13,000 positions they had open at the time. Might even be a good idea to start dropping off those resumes now. I always ask who will be the hiring manager and ask to meet them and introduce yourself. If you have to sit patiently and wait until the lunch rush is gone do it! It will be well worth your time. Sometimes when you leave your application with the cashier or someone not involved in the hiring process, it may get misplace or tossed on top of a pile. Then your just another name. Let them put a face with it.
Whether your working part time through college or looking for full time long term, this opportunity may have exactly what you need. They offer flexible hours and schedules, competitve wages free uniforms at most locations, free or discounted meals (my personal favorite perk) and for longer term employees they have prettty competitve medical insurance, prescription drug coverage vision discount, dental, 401(k) plans, paid holidays and vacation pay.
All pretty standard for top companies in the US but what people may not know is that McDonald’s also has extensive educational opportunities. They offer education assistance as well as management training programs that give up to 46 credits towads your 2 or 4 year degree.
So mark April 19th down. Tell your friends. Tell your kids that you have been trying to get out of the house. Spruce up that resume and GOOD LUCK EVERYONE. =-)
