The boy closed his eyes in his father’s arms. The father burst into tears, and screamed for help and forgiveness. The boy just on his seventh birthday, and his father 29. The place, a hell-dessert burnt by heat over 50c degrees, meant the end of a dream.
It was the father’s desire for a better life for his only son, and the compelling need for the basics that force him north of the border. The father, defying friends advise, brought his son with him. Now, small and inert body in front of him, he barely heard the sirens and fell exhausted.
This month the state of Georgia, in the USA, signed a bill that will put on print the steps police should follow to prevent illegal immigration.Lets see what that bill is about: permits police, when conducting criminal investigation, to inquire suspects of their immigrant status if the suspect fails to provide a personal identification.Prevents police from considering race, colouror national origin when inquiring the suspects. And prevents illegals from receiving public benefits.
Isn’t that what the police suppose to always do?
Ridiculously enough Mexico and other countries in SA filled a suit against the government of Georgia crying foul and lack of respect for human rights. What ?
Are we, Latinos, that nutt already?
And there is more. Political-mf’s tell us that this law is discriminatory and damn abusive. The bill, they said, “threatens the rights of citizens and non-citizens alike by encouraging racial profiling.”Being a Latino immigrant myself, a legal one must be said, I hardly understand those arguments. And I disapprove 100% those ideas that do nothing but mock immigrants who want to have a better life.
The fact is that if you enter illegally to any country in the world you are asking for trouble. It is a dream that you will work illegally for a few years and because of the rights you generated, breaking the law, that country will grant you legal status. Yes, a dream at its best, and stupidity at its worse.
If the police treats illegal aliens, or anybody, with disrespect, kicks them or force them to do wrong things; we should point fingers. But if police do what they suppose to do, PROFILE SUSPECTS, how can we accuse the police of stripping somebody’s human rights? Let’s get a life. Would you treat a thief that breaks into your house with any kind of respect ? If your answer is yes, you have a problem because”among individuals, as among nations, respect for the rights of others is peace.”
And for god’s sake do not hire somebody to take you “north” illegally. That will only turn you into an “illegal-sitting-duck-alien”. And by paying moolah to a dumb ass you are enriching that SOB and surely he will go on to abuse others.
That fact is that countries need from each other. And particularly the USA needs the work force from other countries because immigrant workers help produce the goods that fulfil the needs of its huge population.
So, we must respect other countries laws and legally seek for the opportunities we all deserve. Period.
