My favorite game so far this year, well it really could not be a complete answer, because Modern Warfare 3, and Battlefield Bad Company 3, have yet to be released. Even though, upon their respective releases later this year, the answer might still be the same, Gears of War 3.
Epic Games, the developer of Gears of War, released an early beta-test version of the highly anticipated game in April. Gamers only had to pre-order purchase Gears of War 3, and they were given a special code to download the beta, through Microsoft’s Xbox Live Arcade.
Epic promised to evaluate feed back from gamers during the beta test, and to incorporate their opinions into a more polished product, for final released, scheduled on September 20. Only the multiplayer mode was available for a short time, and thousands of gamers took Epic up on the offer.
The multiplier mode as experienced through the beta was well designed, and very current with other major shooters on the market. The maps were tighter, and encouraged more action, and more close quarters contact. The most popular multiplayer maps across the genre, always include those maps that have fast and furious action. The developers of Epic understood this and delivered a game that in very intense, and offers in your face action.
Another aspect of the new game play of Gears 3 is the team play of the multiplayer mode. The smaller maps create the need for teams to pay together, roaming around like a Lone Wolf, most certainly leads to death and your team losing. The new scoring system allows for a limited amount of deaths per team, when a team depletes it’s re-spawns, the other teams wins by default.
The best way to play is for teams to stay together, with some teammates dedicated to range attack and others ready to rush. A teams wants to have a variety of weapons, to facilitate rush, and range attacks.
The team play, when it’s good, really makes the gaming experience of Gears 3 awesome. Online gaming does not get any better, when team play and team objectives can be achieved. There has been no thrill better for me this year, than when playing Gears 3, and putting a guy down with my Hammerburst rifle, and watching someone finish them off when a chainsaw attachment.
The blood and gore is still here in Gears 3, but the increased action, means you get even more. You get more lancing, more chainsaw chew ups and more chances to pound a down enemy to death, so Gears 3 is heavenly violent for fans. The maps have great visuals, and that special art direction and style, so unique to Gears. A new, “Beast”, mode has been added, which allows gamers to play as the enemy Locust Horde, so with some new weapons, and new tactical designs of the maps, Gears 3 is ready to release with a bang.
