The most powerful tool on can use when getting fit isn’t something many would take the time to think about at all. However it is a very powerful tool indeed. Not only for getting fit but for accomplishing whatever endeavor you set out to do in your life.
The most powerful tool is our mind and will, others might refer to it as willpower but it’s the same thing. To truly transform yourself you need to have the willpower to do so. Don’t kid yourself it is no easy feat. In fact it’s probably the hardest voluntary thing you could do in your life.
- When you exercise it’s those last few reps that you feel, you can’t get out that really get those results you so desire. If you don’t have the willpower to push yourself you will fail.
- When you are on a diet and those Oreo cookies are staring you in the face. If you don’t have the willpower to resist you will fail.
- When you have a bad day at work and just don’t want to exercise that day. If your willpower doesn’t allow you to suck it up and push on you will fail.
The list goes on and on. You get the picture.
Our body only does and adapts to what is demanded of it. So in order for you to change you need to take yourself beyond its natural limit. For example a guy is lifting some weights his muscles give out; he tries over and over but can’t get another rep up. You would consider him at his limit? Correct? You would be wrong that is what you believe is his limit. He still has a few more reps in him I assure you. Now you are wondering how if his muscle won’t contract anymore? Well he went to his natural limit he hasn’t gone beyond his limit which he very well can if he allows himself to. At this point he hasn’t done anything yet that will make his body transform because he has not taken the lifting beyond his limit. His body doesn’t have a reason to adapt or change it doesn’t need to for survival yet, so why would it change. What is this craziness I speak you are probably saying?
Take this example which comes from Dorian Yates 6 times Mr.Olympia said. That same guy does his reps his muscles give out again, he can’t push another rep out regardless of how hard he tries. Now add in this variable of somebody has him at gun point. They proceed to tell him if he doesn’t do two more reps they will blow his brains out but if he does two more reps he’s free to go. He’ll definitely get those two reps out. His fight or flight will kick in, suddenly it has become a survival situation. Now he has taken it beyond his limit. His body will adapt to this and those two reps he couldn’t do before he’ll be able to do with no problem for now on.
The example I gave was extreme, but it gets the point across. No you don’t need to be held at gun point. You just need to make yourself believe its life or death.
If you can believe (A) You can do it + (B) You have to do it = (C) It will be done.
If however you believe you can’t do it, you won’t be able to it’s that simple. Regardless how much you try, you will fail because your mind stops you each time you make an attempt. Your willpower allows you to push beyond your limit with anything in life. Our bodies meet whatever demands we put on it for the sole purpose of survival. We have all heard the expression if you don’t use it you lose it. That is a true expression but one should also have an expression if you don’t need it you won’t make it.
“Mind over all“
My Closing Statement
Use your willpower to overcome anything in life you desire not just fitness goals. If there is one thing I want to give you it is the mind set that your willpower can truly do anything. The problem with having a strong willpower is many surrounding you will become jealous or doubt you. All you need to do is block them out never doubt yourself. This is truth i’m telling you.
Regardless of succeeding or failing you need to use your willpower to go after what you desire in life. You say well what if I fail? Well then at least your tried and fought for what you believed in or desired. It’s much better then the second choice you also fail because you never try and live with regret for the rest of your life. Plus choice one has the chance that you might succeed choice two doesn’t.
I’ve lived with regret, I never tried on a lot of things and I’ve played it safe for awhile. What did that give me absolutely nothing other then security . The price for security was to much as I was surrounded by complete regret and depression. It wasn’t till I felt I lost it all and found fitness that I finally was able to find happiness. This is something that is priceless to me, the ability to live without regret to live with happiness. Now I live to succeed or die trying. I plan on paying this forward by helping those that want to be helped . Look as crazy as this sound I don’t know you but I believe in you, now you have to believe in you.
