Farmers’ Markets in Frederick County, Md

Spring, summer and fall are my favorite seasons of the year. Not just because I can stop hiding in my house, yeah right, from the elements of winter. These are not the only seasons; tis’ the season of farmers’ markets.

Farmers’ markets have so much to offer; fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade breads, jams, etc. At times, they may even offer your much better deal that most grocers. Most grocers do not get their produce locally, which means trucking it in from wherever and with gas prices as high as they are currently; you pay more out of pocket.

There are 10 farmers’ markets in Frederick County, Md. Our county is quite large and much of it is rural, which means more farms and lots of produce.

I have been in Md. a little more than two years and of those two years, was only able to venture out the first year. During that season, I only went to the Farmers’ Market at the NCI-Fort Detrick. I selected this market because it was within walking distance of my house. I never knew what I would be bringing home; it varied from week to week. There was a great deal offered; what sticks out, fresh produce, homemade breads, jams/jelly’s, candles, honey and lotions. Everything made and packaged locally. It is important that farmers’ market newbie’s understand that most markets only take cash, occasionally, you will find a vendor that has a credit card machine, but do not count on it.

Happy marketing!!!
