Dancing With The Stars is one of the most entertaining television shows on the air. In this show, celebrities pair up with professional dancers and compete in a ballroom dance competition. The show continues to dominate the Nielsen television ratings . Since making its debut in 2005, Dancing With The Stars has created some of the most entertaining moments on TV. There are many reasons why you should be watching.
Nothing beats live television. Anything can happen. That’s why it’s so riveting. Dancing With The Stars has had many unforgettable moments. In the first season, Kelly Monaco suffered a wardrobe malfunction during her live routine. She not only had to perform the routine, but also had to keep her outfit from falling off. In 2007, Marie Osmond fainted after her dance routine. The host and judges were shocked. Marie recovered during the commercial break and finished the show. Even the professional dancers have mishaps. In 2011, Maksim Chmerkovskiy injured himself during a live routine with Kirstie Alley. Moments like these are very entertaining. You don’t get moments like these from recorded television shows.
Who are these people?
The show attracts different types of contestants. There are celebrities, models, athletes, television hosts, etc. The show documents their workouts during the week, so you get to know them a little bit. Sometimes there are celebrities who have been out of the spotlight for a while. It’s interesting to see how they’re doing now.
The Pro Dancers
The professional dancers have become celebrities in their own right. On the men’s side you have brash bad boy Maksim Chmerkovskiy and the very likeable Mark Ballas. On the women’s side, Karina Smirnoff is the tough disciplinarian and Chelsie Hightower is the youthful one of the bunch. In some cases, I think the pro dancers are more popular than the celebrities themselves.
Though this is not a dating show like The Bachelor , show romances can happen. Dancer Derek Hough and his partner Shannon Elizabeth dated for more than a year before breaking up . Television star Mario Lopez had a 2 year relationship with his partner Karina Smirnoff . Their Salsas on the show were extra steamy. As you can imagine, showmances make for very interesting television.
A highly rated show doesn’t just attract viewers, it attracts celebrity guests. It is common for guest celebrities to stop by during the week and make cameo appearances. On the results show, popular singers like Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift perform.
The three judges add their own personalities to the show. Carrie Ann Inaba adds an emotional aspect to judging. Contestants must be careful not to use illegal moves like lifts because Inaba is the self-proclaimed lift-police. Len Goodman is an old school judge. He wants to see true, technically sound dances. Bruno Tonioli is energetic and enthusiastic. When he likes a dance routine, you will know it. His comments are emphatic, lively and powerful. I always want to hear what Bruno has to say. The interaction among the judges is also fun to watch.
Tom Bergeron is a great host. He seems sincere, modest and friendly. He doesn’t make the show about him, yet he is in full control. He makes the show a joy to watch. Co-host Brooke Burke is not quite as polished. But she does a decent job with the post-dance interviews.
If you’ve never seen Dancing With The Stars, give it a chance. The live aspect alone makes this must see television. But there’s so much more. Watch it and be entertained.
