Ordinarily, I am extremely turned off by chain restaurants; mass service and large leaves so much to be desired. Famous Dave’s proves that there is always an exception to the rule and comes through at the three point line, with nothing but net. There are locations in 32 states, I visited the restaurant located at 3170 N. Naglee Road in Tracy, Ca. Famous Dave’s is a BBQ joint with a fun atmosphere.
Parking is plentiful, no worries on parking at this location. It is located on the outer perimeter of the West Valley Mall and is a very short walk or drive from the mall.
There is seating at both tables and booths. If you are looking for a family atmosphere, this definitely would suit the purpose without being annoying for single people, or those on dates. This restaurant definitely serves people in all angles of life in a comfortable and fun way.
Service is attentive and friendly. I have been to this location a few times and the service has always been above par. The servers have a lot of energy and check on you regularly with the fine balance of letting you enjoy your meal and company.
There is a fully stocked bar with seating at the bar and in booths; great after work drink place that is lively but not crazy. Try the Bloody Mary, it’s delicious. (Spicy for me, please.) They have drink specials so make sure to ask about them.
The food is fresh and you can see the quality. Most chain restaurants skimp on these two points but not this restaurant. Pride is present in the outcome of these meals.
The Tri-Tip sandwich is definitely a good choice. I suggest getting the horseradish barbecue sauce on the side as there are several different barbecue sauces on the table from sweet to somewhat spicy. This lunch plate will cost you $8.49 and you will not be hungry.
Rib tips have a great flavor and are another great choice. The dinner plate will definitely fill you up. The lunch plate will cost you $8.99 and will leave you satisfied.
Sides can really make a meal and they have some good ones. I like the Wilbur Beans best and the Dave’s Cheesy Mac & Cheese takes a very close second seat. Drunkin’ Apples are a great after meal taste bud treat.
The sides are a bit small for the price of $2.99 each but definitely worth it in flavor.
Pricing is reasonable, especially for the portion size of the meals.
If you are ready to eat but not starving, check out the lunch and early bird specials. The portions are a bit smaller and the prices are a bit smaller.
Although I consider the Drunkin’ Apples a dessert, it’s in the appetizer section of the menu. However, personally, I have not tried any of the “desserts” but hear that the Hot Fudge Kahlua Brownie is to die for.
Between the great service, quality food and decent pricing, Famous Dave’s is a slam dunk.
Bottom line: Highly recommended.
