Summertime is a great time to spend time with the family and enjoy beautiful weather outside. The summertime is also the time to go to great festivals and craft fairs and experience different things. Around Philadelphia, there are five great summer craft fairs in 2011. They are located in Allentown, Quakertown, Philadelphia, and one is located at or near Penn State College. They are all within a short distance to drive, so why don’t you jump in the car and make plans to attend these festivals.
In Quakertown on May 21, 2011, there will be a festival called Summer fest at Men-O-Lan. It is located at 1415 Doerr Road. The hours are from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m., and there will be over 30 exhibitors. There will be free admission with an arts and crafts show. There will also be food, kids’ games and activities such as fishing, derby, balloon artists, canoeing, rock wall climbing, and carriage rides. They will also have a pancake breakfast available at 7:30 a.m. for children and adults. Children under 12 years of age will cost $3 and adults will cost $5. In Allentown, Pennsylvania, there is a craft fair called Mayfair Festival of the Arts which is located on Ott and Hamilton Streets. It takes place on May 26 through May 30, 2011. There will be 150 exhibitors at this festival. The Mayfair festival is held in a public park and has restrooms for the public to use and other public facilities at Cedar Beach Park. The Park is also handicap accessible. There are unmetered parking available for the festival along the street that is surrounding the park. The hours are from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, and from noon until 9 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Monday the festival takes place from Noon until 7 p.m. The festival will continue whether rain or shine, unless there is an event that includes severe lightning or other weather that is hazardous to the publics’ safety. There will be no video recording or audio recording allowed however cameras are allowed throughout the festival grounds except on and around the stage areas. Visitors are allowed to smoke anywhere on the grounds however not in the tented areas. There will be a vast amount of Artists available such as Autdemna Jewelers, Baubles & Beads, Vibrant Clay Designs, Ian Lander Jewelry, Clay of our Lives, Livine Fine Art Studio, Georgie Lehoop Drum Artist, Ye Olde Silversmith, Kizmat Studio, and many more. There will also be Culinary exhibitors there such as Nectar of the Vine, Ye Old Toffee Shoppe, Papperdelle’s Pasta, Annie’s Pooch Pops, and many others. For those Organic shoppers out there, there will also be some exhibitors from Organic Markets, such as Richard’s Seagrass Hats, Possum Hollow Farm Soap LLC, Twin Oaks Hammocks, and A Natural Alternative. In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 3 through 5 there will be the 80th annual art festival in the Rittenhouse Square. It is located on 18th & Walnut Streets. On Friday and Saturday June 3rd and 4rth, from 11 a.m. through 7 p.m. and on Sunday June 5, 2011 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. There will be 140 exhibitors showing visual art. In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 25 and June 26, 2011, there will be an arts festival at the Manayunk Arts Festival located on Main Street between Green and Shurs Lane. It is open on Saturday June 25 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday June 26, 2011 from 11 a.m .through 5 p.m. There will be 275 exhibitors located at this festival. There will be over 300 artists exhibiting their artwork at this event, along with music, live entertainment and dining. All the artwork is original forms of arts and crafts and replicas are not allowed. Art forms are allowed to be in the forms of painting, drawing, wood, sculptures, ceramics, glass, fiber and mixed media. It will be the largest outdoor craft show featuring 300,000 visitors in a total of 2 days. This event is easily accessible via use of car, Regional Rails, Bus, or bike. There are many restaurants available on main street that visitors may dine in. Jake’s and Cooper’s Restaurant, which is located on Main Street, is considered “an ideal setting for a special, intimate meal”, and has at least forty different wines to choose from as well as local beers. July holds a massive arts festival at State College located in State College, Pennsylvania. It takes place from 10 a.m. through 8 p.m. on July 14 through July 16 and 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. on July 17, 2011. This festival is actually a 5 day festival however July 13 is their “Children’s Day” and is not open to the public. They have a wide variety of ethnic foods and drinks for you to experience as well as art exhibits, arts and crafts media to buy, theatrical performances and various forms of dance and music entertainment. It is nestled into the Allegheny Mountains and over 125,000 people come from all over the place just to come see this festival every year, within those 4 days.
