Can we be honest here? The economy stinks. The job market does, too. Not for everyone, of course. But for a lot of people the economy and the job market are the causes of most of the stress in their lives. Right now it’s not so easy to jump into a new industry to avoid burnout, and for some people taking a drastic cut in income is not viable. So what are you supposed to do when the alarm clock feels like a mortal enemy? When the thought of going to work at a job you hate drains the life force out of you? Believe it or not, you can get through this.
Get Your Power Back
Somehow, somewhere along the way, you gave your power away. We all do it. Jobs, relationships, mortgages, hobbies, heck even potholes are given the power to influence and annoy us. Take it back. You think you can’t, but you can. You don’t even have to tell anyone. Just tell yourself: I’m back. And I am in control of my own life.
Once you understand that you are in control of your own destiny, you will feel better. You can’t control everything, of course, and who would want to anyway? But you can control how you feel, what you think, and what you dream about. It takes time and effort, but it’s your life. And your life is worth it. Even if your back is so up against the wall that you can only take your life back for five minutes a day, do it. You will see the difference.
Every couple of years the idea of forgiveness gets popular. Some people get to forgiveness through religion or spirituality, but even the most devout humanist can see the upside here. What doesn’t seem to happen, unfortunately, is the real forgiveness of self.
Everyone makes mistakes. And sometimes they’re so big they make you slog along in a marriage or job for years that you really didn’t want or plan for. But you know what? It’s time to forgive yourself. It’s time to work through the anger and the sadness and get to the little soul clearing where forgiveness grows. It’s a tender little greenling, sometimes mistaken for a weed. But it is no weed. It is a life-altering celestial flower, and it’s about time you picked it and wore it on your lapel. Forgive yourself, okay?
Isn’t it great to read things from centuries past? Okay, sometimes it is difficult to figure out what they were trying to say. Sometimes you don’t care, or care enough. Most of us just go by what the historians say about what happened back there, which is really dangerously faulty, but that’s a whole other article.
Write your stuff down. Get a notebook at the dollar store or pharmacy. Just write your stuff down. Whatever you want; there’s no plan and no right or wrong. You don’t even need the notebook. Use your laptop if you want to do it on your computer. Or get a Twitter account. Make up a name and tweet your stuff. What’s important is that you write yourself down. It will make you feel better, it really will. It is a form of creation, it is creation, and creation is usually a good thing for the human soul. Just write your stuff down and see how you feel afterwards. It’s probably going to feel a lot better.
In The End, It Comes Down To You
It really does come down to you. It’s time, don’t you think? Stop blaming others for what you are feeling. That includes your parents and God, too. Life is what you make it. No one is going to give it to you all tied up in fancy ribbons with a bow on top. Life is what you make it, comrade. Now go out there and be happy, all right?
