This wood slat wall art is very shabby chic. It is really easy and inexpensive to make. If you are not great at building things, don’t worry, this is easy as cake. The best part is that the less perfect it is, the better it looks.
The materials that you will need for the wood slat wall art are:
(2) 1x2x12 ft. pieces of wood
(10) Fill it strips; make sure that they are thin
Favorite quote or words you love
Nail gun or nails and hammer
D-rings or something of your preference to hang it on the wall
80 grit sand paper
Step One: The first step is to determine the where you would like the wood slat wall art to go. Once you have chosen a place for it, you’ll need to figure out the size that you would like it to be.
Step Two: Use the 1×2 to construct a frame for the wood slat wall art. Use a tape measure to measure and mark on the 1×2 the length and height. Then use a saw to cut the 1×2 on your marks. You should end with 4 pieces of wood.
Step Three: Lay out the newly cut wood to form a frame in the shape of a square or rectangle.
Step Four: Use a nail gun or nails and a hammer to nail the boards together; making the frame sturdy. Be sure to nail at the corners where the two boards meet.
Step Five: You will want the wood slats to run across the frame horizontally. Use a tape measure to measure the frame horizontally. Starting with the outer edge of the frame and ending with the outer edge of the frame.
Step Six: Next cut the fill it strips to the measurement you got in step five.
Step Seven: Lay the cut “fill it” strips horizontally across the frame. Repeat this step until the frame is filled with “fill it” strips. The spacing between the “fill it” strips should be minimal and not equal throughout.
Step Eight: When you like the placement of the “fill it” strips nail them in place.
Step Nine: Use 80 grit sand paper to roughen up the “fill it” strips.
Step Ten: Either paint or stain the wood slat wall art. Then allow it to dry completely.
Step Eleven: Figure out what words you would like on the wall art and how you would like them arranged.
Step Twelve: Apply paint to the back of the stamps and stamp the letters onto the wood slats. Then allow the paint to dry.
Step Thirteen: Affix the D-rings or any hanging method of your choice to the back of the wood slat wall art.
Step Fourteen: Hang it on your wall and enjoy!
